    Default Honda HRU216 gearbox assembly

Hi everybody, I have a Honda HRU216 that's bit more than 1 year old. When the transmission started to crunch I normally just tightened the cable a bit and all was fine, until last week when this didn't make a difference anymore. And I had to push the mower, which was hard work. Today I took apart the gearbox and checked out the components, which all seemed to be pretty good. Apart from the fork clutch maybe being a bit stiff. Anyway, I cleaned it all up got some new oil and was about to put it back together when I tried to figure out how to get the oil back into the gearbox. I know it sounds stupid, but I can't find an oil inlet screw or anything similar. Has anyone done this before? Do you put the oil in before you close up the gearbox?

    Cheers

    Alex

You lay one part of the the housing on its side and fill it up to the brim. Then bolt the other housing on.
    Done this heaps of times.

There is no oil inlet on the gearbox. I checked with allot of mechanics and they all said the same thing.
As for the S/P not engaging... We found that the arm slips .

Awesome, thanks for your reply and link to the thread. For some reason when I searched I couldn't find it. I think I will get a new side arm and cable and try that out as well.

    Hi Guys
Have been told by my local mower shop
That the arm that the cable goes to Slips cogs
On looking at mine it had cracked
    Replaced lever all good !
He said he had 4 or 5 with same problem
So its worth trying before replacing gearbox !

That clunking noise is usually caused by the arm on the outside stripping and slipping. I've taken gearboxes apart and I find that the Honda gearbox is pretty basic and robust. I've seen posted photos of gearboxes after being taken apart and all the "gears and cogs" look good, but I have never seen a photo of "stripped and rooted" gears and cogs. I tend to believe that cables, shafts and linkages outside of the gearbox fail first and the gearboxes fail last, if not at all. Do you think that the mower repair shops, (in reality they are on the whole only replace workshops) have been taken us for a ride by replacing gearboxes by telling us dummies that the gearbox is "stripped"

I know it has been a while, but I haven't been on the forum for some time. Just to give everybody an update. I finally got a honda workshop that was really good they confirmed that my gears were not worn, the arm that the cable goes into was not worn either. They said that there have been quite a few faulty gearboxes and they arranged for a new one to be installed under warranty i.e. no charge. Since then it works like a treat. This confirmed that there was something wrong with the original gearbox.

Anyone know where the fuel filter is located on the HRU216M2? The fuel line comes out of the tank and straight in to the carby. So where the heck is it, there must be one somewhere?
