thas why we are on this forum so early lol .... the last month has been bad but i think our friend in SA with 6 weekly visits if hes lucky may be harder than us..... main income we have relied on is garden maintenance although the good customers have kept us on ...is good in one way as the back yarders get hurt before us so less of them so more wins on quotations.....

They'll be fine bar 1 little ol' Italian lady who when this happened last time I had to cut it a bit higher (#4 on the ol' Honda) she said..." Look here..too long you do it again...I replied if I cut it twice you pay me twice...Hooo hoo.
Anyhoo...this is the same lady who once said to me, " You! Cut that tree out for me I give you extra 2 dollar"

Falling trees, damaged power lines and gale-force winds were some of the afflictions Melburnians endured on Wednesday 2nd April, as wild autumn weather swept through the city. Melbourne Airport went on alert, pedestrians were buffeted and trams delayed during the worst of the gusts.

The weather caused such concern that police were forced to ask people not to ring 000 for weather reports, only for emergencies, and to stay tuned to 774 ABC Melbourne instead.

People working in the city might have been glad to hear police say they should consider leaving work early to avoid the worst of the weather, except for the long delays on the roads.

    Traffic delays

Vicroads closed two lanes on the West Gate Bridge in both directions, and set the speed limit at 40km/h. And on the toll roads, Citylink tried to minimise problems on the Bolte Bridge by diverting high trucks off the Tullamarine inbound at Flemington Road, and off the West Gate outbound at Montague St.

Police also put restrictions in at the Kingsway and Power St entry ramps to the West Gate because of traffic clogging, and the Domain Tunnel went down to one lane of traffic, causing huge delays. The Monash outbound went down to one lane near Wellington Road after a large tree blocked lanes.

One of the big sound-proofing fences on the Western Ring Road bit the dust and fell into the running lanes, causing diversions, and the South Gippsland Highway was blocked at one point, forcing people to use the Bass Highway instead.

The SES responded to over 5000 calls for help by mid afternoon, mainly in the Western District, with shed roofs blown off and dust storms hitting Ballarat. Debris hampered traffic on the Glenelg Highway, and a council worker was hit by falling branches on the Western Highway while clearing it.

Looking around Mildura this morning you wouldn't know that by 2.30 yesterday afternoon the whole town was enveloped in a thick red dust.

Weather reports told us it would be windy through the afternoon of Wednesday 2nd April but the dust storm that hit was really sudden, completely blocking out the sun and reducing visibility to 50 metres at best.

Mildurans are no stranger to this phenomenon but it hasn't happened for quite some time and locals said the storm rivalled some of the worst they'd experienced since the 1940s.

Motorists who initially had their headlights on had to pull over to the side of the road or slow right down because while the dust obscured their vision, the wind also whipped up debris which kept skipping over the road in front of them.

Behind our offices, a huge jacaranda tree lost a limb which fell on a parked truck and blocked the roadway for some time. While snapping pictures of the storm you could hear the tree creaking in the wind, threatening to lose another branch on top the other.

Lying on the Victorian and NSW borders, Mildura's right on the edge of the desert but according to the local weather bureau, the dust that came down on the town yesterday was whipped up by a front all the way from Tropical Cyclone Pancho in Western Australia, picking up desert sands through South Australia and finally coming to rest here.

The winds reached about 70 kms an hour, which isn't as bad as other parts of the state which recorded over 110 km/ hr. It meant the damage wasn't too severe, but we were expecting a rain storm but that didn't come to dampen the ground so even now shop owners are sweeping away dust from the front of their shops and cars are covered in a film of burnt red sandy soil.

After 12 or 13 days of rain, the sun is out and it's a beautiful day.

Now to somehow find the time to catch up on all the jobs....

We've just had an awesome display of nature here in the eastern suburbs... bit of thunder, bit of rain... and then the hail came down like the sky was falling. Felt like chicken licken

Heres a pic of venus fly trap and a little jacaranda amidst the storm

    Hi all
No rain in Brisbane for a some time now. Grass starting to dry out again, however still plenty to keep us going.

I heard on the radio today that this month will be the driest May on record for Sydney.
