It's ironic that our Little Hitler Newman decided that the SES Cadets wasn't a valuable enough resource a few months back and disbanded them in the name of scratching a few pennies together. Now we have the situation where senior SES members are filling sand bags (something the cadets would have done)instead of being on the front line.

The Gold Coast this morning at high tide. Nothing really interesting but gives an idea what the wind was like...

Now I know why dogs like hanging the heads out of car windows! Ive never experienced wind like that before. Seen bigger surf, more erosion etc but not the wind.
Was hurting my eyes at the end of that vid.

I cant believe the winds still going strong! Glad not up Bundy though!

Do you have power? Heaps of people don't. I dont have mobile reception or free to air tv but have electricity. Energex have done a great job clearing trees out my way. Power used to go off if I farted to hard!

Paul. Just a tip. Might be too late now but if you can find the water course in the cieling, find the most suitable spot and smash a hole into it. With care of course and away from power. Heartening thing to do but can stop damage from spreading.

Never lost power mate,we're kinda lucky to be tucked in on the lee side of a hill so it was shooting over the top of us

Not much to be done here fortunately or unfortunately. Took Amanda and the boys out just now to get some dinner before school starts back tomorrow (and to help me get my mind off things).

As long as it doesn't rain anymore we are okay for now. As soon as it starts raining we are in trouble again. SES haven't shown up after three calls in the last 48 hours and insurance won't do anything until it all dries up and they can get on the roof. In the meantime we just have a leaky roof and a gaping hole in the ceiling through to the fibro roof.

Luckily the water stopped flowing in the downstairs room fairly quickly. We actually had seepage too, coming through the special waterproofing on the fllor that cost thousands to have done after 2011.

People wonder why I sound down some of the time. It because things like this seem to keep happening no matter how much of a positive outlook I try to have (Simmo).

Thoughts still remain will people elsewhere who must surely be stressing more than me at the moment.

So so true. Saw that on the news last night. Experienced SES people standing around filling sandbags.

Whilst today I went to Bunnings to up grade some Fire Fighting stuff for our family's fire plan as I live on the edge of a rural area. (Not that we have any threats to deal with currently)

Then to comprehend the contrast in conditions within our vast land up north.

Could not imagine the impact of a flood and the mess/mud, structure damage caused, let alone the fresh food problems from the lengthy power outages to homes and food retailers.

    Be safe Guys/Gals.
Your not wrong Garry the contrast is amazing western Qld was getting fire warnings the same time we were getting flood warnings.

I was going to get on the roof here too but incredibly the insurance company said not to, that we had to get it looked at by a roofer or they wouldn't consider a claim. We couldn't get anyone to come out anyway and the stupid thing now is that claim is going to be bigger than it might have been!

Stories like this coming out of areas such as G.a.yndah (Burnett River etc) help us to take stock of relatively minor problems (in comparison).

Michael and Cheryl Kirk's dairy has been decimated by Reid's Creek breaking its banks. Contents of machinery shed have been washed away. Tractors and trucks have been washed away or torn apart. Garage and tanks from beside house have disappeared. Water has gone through parent's home. Tiny calves and goats washed into creek and certain death. Not sure how they are going to get through all of this as their living has been taken away from them. Clean up begins today (without power). Phone calls of support are always appreciated when something like this occurs. Thankfully family is all safe. Things could have been worse.
It almost makes me want to say "screw it" here, put off all my jobs for another week and go up there and help.
