lol... could be, if i used it. I recommend it for use and have used it on occasion, but i'm more inclined to use salt, my hands or the whipper snipper

Some people prefer to "spray" weeds... vinegar is the best option for this method of delivery

well down here in melbourne the rain fall ..not..has been a record low only 12 mm for the month...prediction for next 2 months is below average...so we are going down that familar road of dry grass again..oh they also said temps up as well...so that makes things look gloomy again.. but as long as we spread our talents in all aspects of gardening we will get by ..again....

THIS IS WHAT THEY SAID LAST YEAR GEEJAY

Stage 4 all but certain: Thwaites

    March 3, 2007

A TOTAL ban on watering Melbourne's gardens and sports fields is almost certain to be introduced on May 1, despite the city saving 14 per cent more water this summer.

State Water Minister John Thwaites said yesterday that without more rain, stage 4 water restrictions would be imposed.

Melbourne's water storages are at 34.1 per cent, while the trigger point for stage 4 is 29.3 per cent. Storage levels are estimated to fall at a rate of 0.5 percentage points a week.

Mr Thwaites said Melburnians had used about 1240 million litres of water a day this summer — 329 litres a person — compared with last summer's average daily use of 1449 million litres.

If it wasn't for the savings, he said, Melbourne would be even worse off.

Stage 4 restrictions ban the watering of lawns, gardens and playing surfaces, hosing of paved areas and washing of cars, except windows, mirrors and lights.

News of the likely tougher restrictions came as Mr Thwaites indicated that the Government would consider piping water from north of the Great Dividing Range to Melbourne — a significant policy change.

As recently as October last year, the Government was against to the idea.

The Government's Sustainable Water Strategy, signed by Mr Thwaites and Premier Steve Bracks, says: "The Government does not support Melbourne buying water from irrigators in northern Victoria to meet Melbourne's future consumptive needs."

But yesterday Mr Thwaites refused to rule out a proposal by Goulburn Valley irrigators to sell water to Melburnians in exchange for a $2 billion upgrade of their irrigation infrastructure.

The plan, under which 90,000 megalitres would be piped to Melbourne, has already been raised with the Government.

"We will certainly consider all plans that are put forward," Mr Thwaites said. "We are certainly wanting also to increase the amount of water that we have in the Goulburn system through efficiency projects. This is very preliminary. We haven't seen a detailed proposal."

The change of heart infuriated the Victorian Nationals, with water spokesman Peter Walsh calling it disturbing.

"When you take water away from a particular region, you are taking the wealth out of a region," he said.

"Our view is why not look at taking industry and employment to the regions … rather than stripping the wealth out by taking the water away."

Mr Thwaites yesterday met federal counterpart Malcolm Turnbull for further talks on the Commonwealth's $10.5 billion takeover plan for the Murray-Darling Basin. Both described the meeting as constructive, but it did not resolve the impasse.

Victoria remains the only state involved the Murray-Darling Basin not to sign the agreement.

Mr Turnbull said no concessions were offered at the meeting.

intertest in the stage four debate.....close connections to the water people say there may some concessions if we get close to the trigger point..there are too many jobs on the line ..car wash , nurseries etc....the domestic area has copped enough retrictions and in reality the home gardener is only using a small percentatge of the water. ..... business may be asked to do more in waterer saving
..they use the majority and there fore maybe told to use less.... be interesting to see how it unfolds if the rain doesnt come ...weather people say there is only a below average rain chance till xmas

Your level 4 sounds similar to the level 6 we have just come off, Interesting to see that you guys use 329 liters a day we have had the 140 liters per person campaign running for a while and we were meeting it they have now relaxed it to 170 liters per person.

But Geoffs right most of us use bugger all in the scheme of things lots of figures get thrown around but I remember reading if all residents stop using water in Brisbane we would only save 10%

Lets just hope you guys get some rain

Starting to really warm up here. The moisture in the air in the mornings makes it a bit uncomfy. Bloody safety spec keep fogging up and the ol' tub of 3B's copping a flogging.
