Plenty of it on the northern beaches.Put on a rain coat plus some rain proof trousers and mowed through it all day.Only down about an hours worth of work for the day,not too bad considering the extra work required.Still got plenty wet though.(hope to have the weekend off for a change) GROW GRASS GROW

Terribly dry here at the moment... We have to steal water from our neighbours tank just to flush the toilet...

Well i say steal, but he said we can borrow it... so long as we pay it back when it rains again

Wish we were getting some of that. We have had just 21mm since the start of September. They are saying we are shaping up for the driest Spring on record.

1mm of Rain on Every square meter of roof = 1 litre of water.

Working on a home with 150 metres of roof space you could expect 150 litres of water from every home with 1 mm rainfall.

Working on a country town with 1000 homes thats 150,000 litres of Water going down the drain for just 1 mm of rain.

The council folk at Orange have finally seen the light and are now recycling this otherwise wasted water. Its gotta be better than recycling sewerage.

If the government supplied tanks to all homes (compulsory - not just rebate), and had the overflow pipes directed to a seperate mains water supply... man, we'd be swimming in water.

What rain we DO get is just wasted.

spot on lifestyle... if every home in melbourne had a tank supplied we probably wouldnt need the desal plant.... i know we need rain but when it does that precious stuff is captured.... trouble is i have seen many people with tanks and the hose from the water main filling it up....

My local Council City of Salisbury harvest rainwater run off and stores it in wetlands to settle and then pumps it into underground aquafiers for storage and to purify. They then pump it back up and have supplied it as a separate water source to new housing developments.

They are even selling the stuff to industry. It is a great way to harvest otherwise wasted water. They have won awards for their program and other Councils are modeling the concept.

Everyone should have rain water tanks but the cost of them is an issue even with the government rebate. If the Government is fair dinkum about saving water give every household a tank.

I recycle my grey water which ends up on my lawns and have multiple tanks at my place. It is something we must all get used to as water is a dwindling supply and here in SA we are seeing just how dry it is getting. Even with the water restrictions I still have a lush green lawn year round and all from harvesting my grey water.

Put a catching device in your shower and measure just how much water you use daily. You will be surprised

We live in the country and ONLY have a rainwater tank for house supply. We do have a creek running past which is good for the garden etc, but not for consumption.

I've seen some rainwater tank systems that incorporate a float inside the tank. If its raining the tank fills and the float closes the main supply off. If its dry, the float drops and turns off the tank supply and back on to mains supply.

The simple things in life are usually the best. But logic seems to take a back seat.

Unfortunately our "experts" are government funded - Whether through a private research facility or not. Thats like Enron funding the research into the effects of oil spills on Sea Life!!
