Nearly lost my car trying to get round the Cherry venture (Anyone remember the Cherry Venture? It would be gone now I think?) in the early 80s coming back from double island point during a cyclone.. left coming home a bit late and the waves were surging in against the cherry venture, could only see about 20m p!ssing down,, wave got me and sunk down to the axle, lucky there were 2 car loads of us and we virtually lifted it out and pushed it round to the hard sand.. by the time we got 2/3 up the beach where the track went behind the sand dunes we were going up into the soft sand when the waves came in then when they went out we went down to the hard sand and gunned it... INTENSE!! BTW surf was Sh!t that day big and messy
I see Marcia has gone to cat 4!!!!! Very unusual for a cyclone to intensify during the day. I always said during that relentless heat and humidity through Jan that there's big rain or a big blow or a combination of both on the way. Looks like you might get your erosion afterall Mick. Just happy that the rain is down south for a change as we have had our fair share for a while. Will be up to date by the end of tomorrow.
I think there is still a little left of the Cherry Venture AJD.
She's jumped up in intensity pretty quick, will be an interesting couple of days.

I remember seeing the Cheery Venture when they were still trying to float her. I was really young but it was still a ship. Was like 74 or so.
I believe the wreck has been removed now for safety reasons. Last time I saw it you could walk through it. Looked like it could collapse at any time so probably not a bad idea to clean it up. Don't want kids falling through it and stuff.
Heard on the news Marcia might get up to Cat 5 by landfall. 4's bad enough! Media beat up? Maybe but still!
Had 30mm rain in the last 12hrs. I'll check it again in the morning.
Yep, be interesting the next few days. Just hope the damage isn't too bad up north for the farmers.
Im still hoping for the erosion!
There saying rain and showers until Sunday then possible showers forevermore!
It will go CAT 5 I think, a few of my weather nerd mates have said its a pretty freak storm. One saving grace if it crosses between Sarina and Yepoon is that there is not a lot there.

If its off shore and clean my pick would be Granits at noosa, only the keen would keep walking most drop off at boiling pot or T Tree
Will be interesting to see how much rain Marcia generates as not all cyclones generate a lot of rain. Looking at the possible track, it's going to give the Fitzroy river catchment a good top up. Was born and bred in Baralaba on the Dawson river which runs into the Fitzroy. Seen a few huge floods there as a youngster - river nearly made our back yard one year. The stench of rotting grass and the mud slime after the water goes down is a shocker, then the sandlies. Used to have 44 gal drums around the school ground with smoking fires in them to keep them away. Wonder what they do these days in the land of mamby pamby. You're right Courty, not much there as a huge part of that area is Shoalwater Bay Military Training Ground.
Well I can confirm in Brisbane the Surface Trough has bought a lot of rain to Brisbane today. From what i have been watching Brisbane has been hammered with over 30ml or rain since 4am today. Looks good for the business forecast for us here with lots of green grass to come.
Kept our daughter home from school today due to the fact we would have been soaked before we even got to the car. The winds are blowing up to 30kntswith gusts bettering 50knts easily already
