Freaky, and it's only got to 24 degrees so far in December.Originally Posted by Adamandeves

Fair indication of curl grub damage to turf grasses. I am seeing a lot of it (dead patches in lawns) in Sydney lawns especially after the run of 40 degrees plus days 2 weeks ago!Originally Posted by redbackmowing
If the lawns were browning off due to lack of moisture then there would be a complete browning off of all the lawn. However, with the patches its most likely to be curl grub damage which occurs around October/November (in Southern hemisphere). The subsequent hot dry periods (normally around December and January) is what shows up the patches where the curl grubs have chewed at the turf grass's root sytem.
Another hot one in Sydney today. Must've been pushing 40 again, same as yesterday. I'm exhausted. I can't wait to have a break over xmas.
Got a bit of rain here overnight and this morning. I cancelled any garden work and dis some display stuff we had waiting to do. Then it cleared up this arvo

Rain ? whats that ?, its been a terrible year for rain here, most lawns are brown & crunchy around here, particularly those on sand, normally its the busiest time of the year now, but its a bit of a worry when customers ask you if you came to mow the dust..
The weather forecast keeps promising rain but it never really happens, maybe the wombat should do a rain dance or something

Yeah there's no sea breeze out here! There is such a big difference from the coast to the city. I think yesterday was only 27 on the coast but 40'ish out here.Originally Posted by a grass act

Bloody hot here today and we had a job I could not put off. Despite my own best intentions I took on a clean up job. Big job. Good money. Originally had is set for Monday but my bloody offsider got gout for two days so had to put it back to today ( luckily Gopher helped me to do that). Well we did it. Had two full trailer loads to the dump and the biggest mongrel of an ivy to take of a fence along with a few small trees and dead diosma's and lavendars to take out.
It was 43 degrees under my verandah when I got home at 1625 hrs this arvo. That means it is at least 45 out in the open. I drank at least 8 litres of water by myself today and my offsider actually got crook which is not like him as he is ex army and used to doing it hard. He worried me a bit but he soldiered on like the good digger he is.
We felt it today. My offsider was going home to have a shower and was going to bed. He was knackered and I am not much better. Cool change on it's way tonight though thank Christ
Cheers

It was 40 over here in Melbourne tonight at 6pm... how did I know this??? I was off to do an end of lease clean up of a court yard. Brushcutter **** itself, back up is not working waiting for a new starter assembly (different brand) had to ring my wife to bring the good old GMC bent shaft to finish the job. It loved it, prick started first go, hadn't been used since I don't know when. Job took 2 hrs but should of taken 1. My car said it was 38 when I was driving home.
Apparently it's going to rain tomorrow.
40 and 45
That's crazy we had 35 a week or so ago and that nearly killed me.
still very dry in Brisbane had a good down pour two days ago but not much else, hopefully it stays dry until next thursday so I can get all the Christmas work done then fingers crossed for the wettest January on record.
