Yasi looks a bad one sure enough but they can often peter out or just loose puff. I am hoping for you guys in FNQ this is correct. You don't need anymore rain right now.

We worked to midday and did 7 jobs. We knew about it by the last one. It was pushing 40 then.

Well at least we might get a bit of a cool breeze when we go to work today, to alleviate the heat and humidity - we'll be working hard to get as much done as possible before Wednesday as they are predicting TC Yasi will cross the coast late Wednesday night...going by my predictions it will cross before then tho, as it seems to be running ahead of schedule at present ... If you want to check out the Yasi's current location you can look at the B.O.M. site http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDQ65002.shtml

I have been busy tonight backing up some of the computer data onto USBs, catching up on the invoices, getting all the insurance paperwork together, etc, etc - I don't think there's any way we will miss out on lots of rain & wind damage here, but we have just restocked the bar and have a fair bit of food and water, etc hoarded away, so hopefully will won't have to evacuate, and can just live like happy campers as there's most likely going to be no power at some stage.

The baby cyclone that came close on the weekend was good practice and we managed to fit the work vehicles into the double carport after we did a dump run with our trailer...not looking forward to sharing close quarters with our menagerie of animals as well as 4 humans if/when we need to do the holy huddle in the "safe" room.

My biggest dilema will be what mowing jobs to get done prior to personal pack up and bunker down time...ah well, maybe a good night's sleep might help in that regard. The schedule can wait.

Good Luck Christine and all the other Indies up that way. I know exactly what it feels like. You prepare the best you can and then comes the waiting for it to hit. Hopefully it will cross in a sparsely populated area but somehow I don't think so. It is the last thing you guys need at the moment.

Hey Redeye my sister lives at Bushland Beach too. She is in Macadamia Crt. Her daughter lives down on the beach and got the text to evacuate but my sister has not yet got one.

I have a couple of good mates in Cairns. Was speaking to one on the phone just before. He says it is bedlam there. Shops are sold out and he had to que for an hour to get petrol. He says there is road rage happening all over the place. He spent an hour and a half in Bunnings this morning just to get some tape and a couple of big ocky straps he wanted. took 10 mins to get the items and the rest was in the que to pay for them. He has 2 gen sets and has fired them up ready and has all the gear he needs so is just waiting now to see if they get hit.

The other mate works for Qld Transport in the Marine Division and he is flat out. His wife has not seen him at all today as they are making sure everyone is prepared on the water. They are predicting a pretty big tidal surge and if you know Cairns at all it will flood on a king tide let alone a big tidal surge

Just got off the phone to my other mate in Cairns who works for Qld Transport. The latest on any tidal surge is between 4 and 7 metres. This is massive for Cairns and will put a lot under.

wow, i looked at the projected landfall and intensity. not good. i would straight pack up and drive very far inland if that crap was headed to me.

i included a quick picture of the weather we have having right now. it is the beginnings of a forcasted blizzard! it is about -17degrees C right now with high winds, and is supposed to get down to -23C with very nigh winds.

i invite you to look at the US active radar. the storm is getting very big. it is already making news and will most likely make the news over there too.

we have some leftover snow but most was gone in the sunny areas. we are expected here to get about 10-18inches of snow, with 10ft drifts!
