Great stuff NLALM, thanx for the pics.
I prefer a (REALLY sharp) long handled spade on an angle to do the turf cutting.
No bending & much easier on the back & knees. Also use a fork for the finer positioning, Ever tried these methods ?

    Cheers Fred.

Haven't seen turf delivered like this before, but seems like a better method than rolling it up.

I've had both. Prefer the rolls as you just roll them out and kick them into place. The slabs take more time positioning and have more ends (voids) to fill with soil. Although they're lighter to lift you have double the lifting movements. It's all time.

Yeah Fred I like the fork idea, the shears in the picture are for cutting curves, there was a curve near the pool gate. For the straight cuts I have a clever that I made from an old scott Bonnar 30 inch queen mower blade, I put a wooden handle on it and sharpened it up, it cuts really well.
The slabs are new to me too, the truck driver said that's how they are doing it now, they were easier to handle not as heavy as the rolls but some of them broke up easily, they didn't seem to be as consistent as the rolls.
And the pool was green so no swimming, and no more big lawn jobs for me, I can hardly walk today and had to do 12 lawns, I am still really sore and have another 12 tomorrow , we have just had a big storm so the new lawn would of got a good soak

NLALM, hope u read this tonight. (or anyone else with turf slab experience)
Tomorrow I lay 105m2 of Sir Walter.
They didn't tell me if its slabs or rolls ?
Done plenty of rolls b4, never slabs.
    Couple of questions.
Whats the dimensions of a slab ?
Do you just fold the slabs in half to get them in the barrow ?
    4 or 5 to a barrow?
    Cheers Fred.

    Thanx Geoff.
We ordered 105m2 so, if they're 1.2 long, in order for them to be 1m2 they would need to be 826 wide ?
Sounds like an interesting day tomorrow. Its raining right now so the soil should be just right to lay on.
Hopefully the sods are thick with a good moisture content, they're from Strathayre.
    Cheers Fred.

    Hey Fred,
Did 30m2 of Strathayre RTF turf last week.
Dimensions of that turf was approx .8m2. Lots of crooked cuts and rolls, nothing square, although the turf quality was good. Sir Walt may be different.
Interestingly, they sent me 9m2 extra. Bonus. Don't know if that's a good thing or bad.
BTW, any chance of Christmas bevvies this year?????
