Default Victa mulchmaster 560 gearbox swap

Put a new gearbox in the 560, was starting to lose oomph and giving me the poo's.

blow all the crap off with a compressor before you start

1.remove the old one - unbolt the under-tray, unbolt the axle holding lugs, unclip the height adjustment bar for the front axle, remove belt and release clutch cable (not necessarily in that order lol)

    2. knock out the pins from the over run gear carefully - use a close fitting podger so you don't bugger them, they need to go back later - be sure to keep them for left/right wheels as they can't work if swapped around.(see photos above, stupid forum setup)

    3.re-assemble and adjust cables

I should ad that unless you're pretty handy at this type of thing, it might be better to get it done by your local mechanic - was lots of swearing involved

The new gearbox's are slightly different in design too and have a higher top speed. Me finds my self running to keep up with the speed fully down which is fun during this time of the year. May have to pull back a little in summer.
I paid for my install as I was swearing too much when I did a total strip and refit only to find the gearbox was beyond repair.

    Redeye,

Was googling Mulchmaster and saw this post come up from 2015 and had a look.
I think your onto the black plastic top type new design gearbox now, but there is a large spring missing in your pictures.
I've haven't got my new g/box in yet, but the old one is out. As I'm rebuilding the destroyed deck holes as in my other post tonight which will be ready tomorrow morning. New g/box is in the shed to be fitted across tomorrow.

I did photo my old gearbox prior to removal today, so l'll get onto my iphone and posted them up so you can see the spring.
    Cheers Garry

Just went to the shed to see if the new gearbox had a lug to attach the spring. It does, so transferred the spring over for the sake of attached photo. The spring helps to control the g/box flicking back violently somewhat, together with side ways belt torque pull. The old g/box that has come off had a semi loose cable tie lopped to the deck case strengthening webbing to restrict excessive backward movement that I put on. Not in any pic’s as it was cut prior to photo. The spring has been there since new factory fitted.

One other thing ED B, I bend out the height lever a little (not too much) before fitment to give it more tension within it's height slot.

I can see that spring on the parts list (34), but I'm sure it's never been there on mine.

There is also a 'gearbox curtain' (25) on the list that mine has never had.

I got my new gearbox in today. It came with a big steel base, but it had to go as it wouldn't fit.

The box sits pretty well on the skid plate so not much rocking. I just made an old spring fit, but I don't think it is really necessary.

Everything worked as it should when I fired it up. Didn't even have to adjust any cables. Top speed is very quick now.

Great you got it in Ok.

The gearbox is bigger underneath and curved- not flat across and hits the normal full sized base plate. I used a Honda squared edge thick blade washer in one front cnr near the g/box as a spacer between alloy cast and base plate. The gearbox doesn't rotate anymore due it to being rammed against the base plate.
So spring not required as now, it just decoration.

How did you get the clutch cable to fit, is it a new design clutch cable as I couldn't make it work, so loaded it into the trailer at 2.30pm and took it to the Husky shop. They wern't sure either so I left the whole mower there.
Can you post a photo of the clutch cable fitment to new G/Box please - and is it the previous normal cable or new type. As mentioned I ordered a cable at the same time, but its the same as the last cable.
Also the new cable shank that pushes through the top part of the handle bar needs a slight drill out as the new cable didn't push though.

Annoyed that new designs don't fit properly when retro fit.
I ordered the whole G/box and axle kit in one piece and I didn't have that shinny metal mini bash plate, but I wouldn't have need it.

Darn I need the 560 as I need to work Wednesday to Saturday and the 216 mulching is not the same in the damp.

Why do relative easy jobs become major pains in the but????

EDIT, the shape of your gearbox case is different to mine, say viewing the front from the engine to the gearbox is different on left side and I can't tell if its different at the right clutch spring cable connect area. Plus yours has a flat bottom like the old ones as mine is a bulkier deeper curved bum.
    Cheers Garry
