Are there any walk behind flail mowers in Australia? Ones I see are to fit to a tractor. Could be a good thing . Don't throw things bad and mulch grass up for a one pass job.

Check out the what AS Motor have.
They are German made and built like tanks to last.
Valley Pumps and Irrigation Moe, Vic (Reg Hall is owner) are the Aust importer / distributor, but I think he now had some interstate agents.
Valley pumps has a website and I think there is one for AS Motor Australia, otherwise google AS Motor Germany -- they have English language web pages.
I have one of the AS Motor Sherpa 4wd steep terrain (sit on) machines and absolutely happy with it for doing what it was designed for.
Unfortunately with the way the $AUD is,prices will not be cheap.
Also, isn't there an outfront flail attachment for one of the Husqvana 4wd sit ons?
I recall someone posting on one of the forums here that they had bought one and loved it's performance for doing vacant blocks etc.
Joe.
Yep. Sterlo is all over the flail deck for his big Husqi. Looks to do a pretty sweet job of the ferals he's had them on. Ive got a smaller Husqi AWD rider of which there is also a flail deck available for but I haven't looked into it too much just yet.
Hi seliment
Thanks for the info about AS Motor mowers. I was unaware of them. Like the look of the AS 700 SM. Might have to win gold lotto to buy it.

Looks good but how do they go with crap in the grass. I do a few vacant lots each year and they all typically have bits of steel or wire and other various bits off crap lying around in the grass. Bits of brick and concrete or piles of crap. Also marsh mallow plants as thick as your arm.

"Success occurs when no one is looking, failure occurs when everyone is watching."
Are you referring to the machine known as a 'Brush Rover flail mower'?
If 'yes', then it is not 'Rover' as in the co that made Rover Mowers, but a product of the Japanese Orec, which afaik, market a rideon 4wd brush mower here as 'Canycom razorback'.
They are not a 'flail mower' in the usual sense (spinning flails in cylinder formation on a horizontal shaft'. Eg like the Husqvana & Pasquali) but a normal vertical shaft with bar & swing- back blades (supposedly made from special steel and a non bolt attachment system).
I considered them before (& looked at them after) I bought my AS motor Sherpa and in my opinion I don't think they are as ruggedly fabricated as the Sherpa (more plastic & who needs headlights for rough mowing?) and they use a driveshaft with shear pin to a right angle drive gearbox on top of deck to direct drive the blade shaft.
This is compared to belt drive on the Sherpa.
My pref is for the belt drive (which also has shear pins on the cutter bars) to better take the shock loads if you encounter something nasty & unexpectedly. (which I have and taken out shear pins on several occasions).
Joe.
Hi seliment
The Rover flail mower I was talking about was a walk behind unit. I have only seen a odd photo on gumtree usually for sale a thousand mile away from me. I don't know if they were made by the rover mower co. I assumed they were. I haven't been able to find out anything about them.

If using a cox or greenfield ride on do you think they would leave that good of a finish?
I used my Greenfield self propelled slasher on Friday. Very over grown block 6 months since last mow. The grass was a mix of hip high wild oates, kikuyu, paspalum, clover, cocksfoot and other stuff. The Greenfield IPD was at its limit cutting this. In a lot of places I had to lift the front so the machine could keep going. Had to double mow approx half the block to get a acceptable cut.
I would not think the ride ons would cut better than a self propelled slasher but I could be wrong.

Hi Bluey
Flail mowers are supposed to throw the crap down into the dirt not side ways like a rotary mower. Don't know as haven't used one.
