How many hours did you get out of the old gearbox Redeye?
Mine is occasionally not driving when I pull the handle first job job the day. I move the gear speed lever up & down and away it goes. I'll have to have a look at it this weekend, after I get my Rover 560 back together again.
unfortunately, they're not made to be pulled down & repaired, they're fairly simple inside but are sealed with a liquid sealant so there is no gasket as such. l guess you could thoroughly wash everything, add fresh oil and re-seal with silicone but not sure how well it would work.....if you're like me you'll do it anyway but l couldn't figure out what the problem was. l've got 2 old ones here so if you need a part let me know

I don't think there would be much wrong with mine Paul... apart from lack of maintenance. It's done relatively little work.
I've never had the cover off the gearbox area. Tried one time, but it felt like one of the bolts was going to snap so I've just been blowing debris out of any holes I can find.
Prob just need some lube.
If they are like the 560's it's worth checking under cover cause grass build-up especially when it gets wet causes no end of dramas...
I pulled the covers off mine this morning (the bolt did break) and the gearbox area was chockers with debris. Works good now. Also cleaned up & lubed the pinion/spring clutch at the wheels and it free-wheels a lot more freely now.
It's normally L & R when you are in the operating position.
