Thread: ZTR Deck sizes

    Default ZTR Deck sizes

What deck sizes do you use and why?

I have a 54in on the Ztr and find it big enough and quite versatile.

Geting a new machine soon and wondering if I should go bigger. It may help in some of the bigger open type jobs but could be a problem in some of the general factory/commercial type work.

What have been your experiences? Pros and cons of 60in & 72in decks

I've got a 44" & a 61". Both have the same problem... too big for some jobs. too small for others.

I use the 44" on some flat residential ¼ acre jobs and up to 1 acre. If I've got the big mower onboard, I'll do vacant ¼ acre blocks & 1 acre lifestyle blocks but not resi lawns. Anything over an acre I use the 61", unless it's really feral. My 44" is a tougher machine for that.

It's probably easier to trim drains & banks without scalping with the smaller deck, but the wider machine holds onto slopes better.

Probably not a lot of difference in accessibility between your 54 & a 60". I haven't specced a 54" but I think you'd be able to get the same engine/hydro options at the top end of the range so speed/power would be similar.
Never had anything to do with 72" but I think I'd get a front mount if I ever got one.

Get an EFI engine whatever you decide on.

I want to get a 32-34" ZTR as I only do resi work and a couple of small 1/4, 1/2 - 1 acre blocks.

If I get a 32-34" I can fit through most side gates. A few of my lawns I do have very large back yards without a double gate to get through. Currently running an old Toro 38" tractor mower with mulching deck, gives a nice clean cut, but getting harder to get the parts I need for maintenance though. And our local Toro dealer is useless.

Thanks ed. Will be an EFI and front mount. Will also be rear discharge for many of those areas we do with garden beds but also with cars and people traffic.

Was just trying to make this machine more capable on bigger jobs but still keeping it versatile enough for those medium type commercial jobs with trees and obstacles.

Like the idea of a 72in deck for bigger jobs but not sure how it will cope with the other type??
