Also while we're talking about this - what type of grease would you use for hedge trimmer gears? I've only ever had mine serviced and sharpened at the shop, but thinking I will do my own now. I'm curious what grease they used tho. It had a really distinct smell, almost sweet smelling??
    I have used

Cheers ian. I have been using this one on the Walker, wasn't sure if it would be too heavy for gears etc.

An update on my Husky gear - nothing too much to report, it's all going great! The line trimmer is the most used by far, it was having some weird intermittent problems with the trigger - it seemed to go away but it was happening again last week. Almost like the sensor is playing up... I will go full trigger but it kind of stutters and just won't spin up properly. But I just take my finger off and try again and it goes like normal. Thinking I will drop it into the shop for them to have a look at over the holidays. Also I'm not sure if it's the way my guys are using the gear, but the backpack battery could be starting to loose capacity... or maybe the line trimmer is chewing a bit more juice than it should and needs a bit of a tune up. Not a big issue, still gets me through a solid days work regardless of what I'm doing.

Actually the trigger on the blower seems to be having the same kind of weird "stutter" issue, sometimes a bit hesitant to blow at full power. They're fairly minor tho, a bit more annoying than anything else - nothing has stopped me getting work done and nothing has broken down or blown up so I'm pretty happy!

After applying more grease today to both the HLA65 and HLA86, mine is definetly quieter (the rattle is completely gone) however I notice the HSA86 runs a lot smoother than the hla65. The Hla65 is older by a year but seems to vibrate/wobble a lot more and this transfers into the operators hand, can anyone confirm this? I may have got a lemon from the factory but the two are designed differently so its possibly a design issue.

You see that star shaped plate on top. Its held on by 4 screws on the hsa86 and 2 screws and a circlip on the hla65. I reckon that needs to come off for the bearing housing to be greased properly. This might explain freds failed bearings. It was easy to remove on the HSA86 but I didn't have a circlip tool to get it off the HLA65. Other that I'm toying with the idea of applying gearbox oil rather than grease as it penetrates further even though it will get thrown of quicker. But given that plastic cover comes off so easily it may not be an issue.

Question for fred. How often where you applying grease before you had the issues? And also do you pull that top plate off when greasing?
At least, if not more, than Stihl's reco's. Not necessary to pull the top plate off.
All points that need lubing can easily be done with it on.
Because its battery, you can press the trigger & watch the parts rotate & check you've lubed all required.

    Cheers Fred.

Thanks Conrad , its good to get the thoughts of someone who is actually using and flogging the gear.. Yeah I would be getting them to have a look at it while you are off.

I know Scott from footprint was showing one day how they hooked up a computer to his whipper snipper and it gave a full read out of exactly how much work it had done even down to how long it had been run on full throttle , very interesting stuff I think it detects faults too

Picked up the demo fsa90 whipper snipper today Gave it a run , will have it for a few days and will post some pictures . here are my thoughts so far.

When you pick the machine up , you immediately feel that it is head heavy, even with the ap 300 6 amp hour battery it is still unbalanced , I adjusted the d handle to compensate but it still wasn't good, I think this is the biggest problem with the machine , also the motor in head is a bit to wide which restricts you being able to see the head, you would probably get used to this but I don't like it. You cant put a different guard on this machine as it is moulded around the motor.

What I liked, it comes with the stihl bump feed head which I unscrewed and put a speed feed straight on no problem. The direction is anti clockwise which is great, and it doesn't turn off like the husky does. The grips and d handle are very good. The power is also great it seems to spin up to full power which feels to me more powerful than the husky.
The head angle is the same as the petrol machine which is nice . Stihl came close with this machine ,but the husky is probably my favourite of the 2.

Because of the guard the line length is a bit short, if I took the line cutter off it would give a bit more length and I'm sure the motor could handle it. Runtime is probably not as good as the husky as the battery is 6 amp not 9 maybe if stihl brought out a bigger battery with more weight it might balance it better. Because of the wider head due to the motor I wasn't edging as neatly

The dealer also showed me the new fsa 130 whippy , wow what a beast, no demo model so don't know how it goes but you can only use it with a backpack battery or wearing you battery on a belt and having a cord plugged into the machine. It to felt a bit head heavy , I'm not sure if this was just the handle position or what because the motor is not in the head, it has a solid shaft and was built like a full commercial machine , I really would like to have a go of one. rrp is $649

He also showed me the new has 94t hedge trimmer. All I can say is wow this is the best battery hedge trimmer I have seen , its a full commercial unit built like their big petrol machines. It has a swivel handle and 3 cutting speeds The balance and feel in the hands is great. Only down fall is like the big whippy you need to plug into it with either a backpack or belt battery This wouldn't be such an issue with a hedge trimmer. This will be my next handheld hedger for sure its nice and light so for big jobs it wouldn't be so hard on the body. awesome machine rrp $749

price for the ap holster with connecting cable is $199

He also showed me the new
