    Default Hrx 217 replacement engine

Hi folks,my 217 engine has come pretty much to the end of its life mostly from trying to mulch long grass etc.Its blowing smoke and I reckon the rings are gone.is there an easy way to replace the engine with another(its prob not worth taking to the shop for them to fix) or should I just buy a new mower and keep it for spares?
My other sp is a procut 50 which is also out of action (but easy fix just waiting on parts)so I have to push these days, which isn't much fun in sydney these days!..

Replacing it with the GCV190 is too expensive, none in Austalia has to be imported
Cheaper to get the GSV190 at half the price and is Australian stock

a couple of years ago I had a Hrr with a bent crankshaft ,A local mower shop put a brand new briggs 850 commercial engine on it, it was about $380 from memory, he kept the honda mower for spares so didn't charge me for labour turned out to be a great mower!

They bolt straight on,the only difference that i recall is the crankshaft is around 4mm shorter which is going to raise the cutting height.
My normal site i go to for this info is not working for some reason. What i remember the engine was around that $450 price supply only

there are 5 different crank shafts available for the GCV/GSV not sure which one is on the HRX but if you look at the serial number on the engine it may tell you
specs for the shaft are near the bottom GCV http://engines.honda.com/models/mode...tical#Features
    GSV http://engines.honda.com/models/mode...tical#Features

I know from when my 850 engine was replaced that there are different diameter and different lengths in the shafts the 1st one they got in the shaft was to wide for my boss and the 2nd one it was a long shaft and the Victa commercial 850 takes a medium shaft
Anything Ian says may or may not be garbage, it may also be his own opinion or it may not be his opinion at all, it may just be something he felt like stating anyone following his advice does so at their own risk and may be doing something Ian would actually advise against.
And if you don't like what Ian has to say use the ignore function if you don't know how ask i will gladly tell you

You could put a Briggs instead of Honda,i'd take the mower to the local dealer and see what's available.
Pay the new motor fitting fee and you should get it all for under $500
