Bloody Kia 2900 is playing up, did an injector not long ago and now I'm getting low pressure in the fuel rail so while i'm figuring out what is wrong I am putting some thought in to a replacement vehicle.

I would prefer a 3 seater manual for the increased tray size. Needs to be 4x4. Probably willing to spend max 20-25k.
Last time I looked in to this I couldn't find a decent 3 seater so went with the kia light truck option. Needing 4x4 wasn't an issue than.

    Anyone know of a 3 seater 4x4?

4x4 light trucks start to cost a lot more money from what I have seen.

I may have to go for a 4 door ute as there are so many around in 4x4.

I'm thinking of ditching common rail diesel and going back to petrol. The common rails just can't handle bad diesel or water in the diesel. High pressure fuel pumps and injectors cost big bucks to replace as do turbos.

Any ideas? How do people find carrying heavy loads e.g. firewood on dual cabs. Seems to me most of the load is behind the rear axle wheras at least with the single cabs you can position most of the weight forward of the rear axle. This is a concern for me. I want the front wheels on the road.

Had a quick look at a dodge RAM until I found out they start at 70k.

Thats a good insurance policy. Did you fit it yourself?

I have read on some forum discussing fuel rail pump failure that adding a bit of 2 stroke oil to the diesel helps compensate for poor diesel quality however the counter argument is that it can cause a glaze on the injectors.

I have heard good things about the BT50's. Did they ever come out in a 3 seat version in the past?

This would be my dream vehicle

l'd love a tray back dual cab Iveco 4by too!

The filter was an easy install, came with the right bracket, half an hours work

l think the early base model may have had a bench seat option? l got a 2009 modler as l wanted the 3lt engine (seemed to get better reliability reports than the 3.2) and it hasn't missed a beat, mind you its only done 70,000k's..... lots of people online say to buy a pre DPF model, this seems to apply to all brands

Wow, very low klms there, about 6k a year. Good pick up. Yeah I have heard the same about the DPF which is probably on most new vehicles these days. ANyone know if the izusus have them? Have you looked in to getting a workshop manual for you Mazda?

Isn't the new BT50's MAzdas the same as the Ford Rangers? Is the 2009 vintage equivalent to any Ford models with that same 3lt engine?

Ford and Mazda have parted ways, the new (2021) model will be mostly Isuzu, up to now they're pretty much identical mechanically, always shared the same engine but l think there were some g'box variants between brands
If you've got the cash, now is the time to get a bt50, they're priced to clear

**** these common rails are nothing but trouble. Spent the day friggen around again because my mechanic is swamped and too busy.

Anyway I thought I'd order a couple of the cheaper parts, a sensor and a valve in case it was either of those. Worst case I have a couple of spares on hand.

I ordered the valve from EBAY about $43 delivered. Many other cars use the same valve, lots of sellers. Before i ordered i thought I'd check with the Kia dealer how much they charge in case they had it in stock.

One thousand and forty dollars. Beware folks.

    Hey Steveo,

Had a customer this week let me know he had his side mirror damaged when parked out the front of his property the driver didn't stop.
He rang the BMW dealer $3000.00 Fitted.
    Such is life.

Its crazy mate. How much of our working life is just to keep our vehicles on the road? Trouble is you can't do without it.

My theory is that when its an insurance job, the repairer goes for the original parts and that is when the insurance company pays these inflated prices or when people just can't be bothered shopping around. Hard to shop around when people need the vehicle back asap.

I've handed the truck over to a diesel specialist, not looking good, suspecting contaminated diesel. Worst case is high pressure pump and injectors rooted.

Redeye what brand water sensor did you get?

Been looking around a bit and what I have noticed that the most common ute on the road seems to be the ford ranger but there is also a lot of them in used car lots. Why not so many BT50's if they are the same motors?

    Hi Steveo,

Ranger/BT 50’s only shared the engines and running gear and that’s it. Having said that, there are other interchangeable parts between the 2, ie mirrors, side steps, servicing spares and so on. I looked at both and bought a Ranger 5 years ago.

I found the Ranger better finished with more standard features than the BT 50 but obviously you pay more. What I found is the service intervals on a Ranger is 15,000ks whereas the Mazda is 10,000ks....go figure! Same running gear with different intervals.

Whilst the Mazda is a cheaper buy, they get u on more frequent service intervals. Overall, both are good utes so depends on what you like. I’m looking at upgrading prior EOY and will buy another Ranger as it’s been faultless.

    Hope that helps..

Hi Steveo, pretty much what the Edge said.
I bought my BT50 in 2016 because it was about 8g cheaper than the Ranger which allowed me to set it up better for 4wdriving at the same cost.
    Bullbar, winch, suspension,driving lights etc.
Only got 60,000km on it so far but no probs.

    Cheers Fred.
