if you ever put a hole in a copper water pipe etc.. (especially if you cant easily unscrew the part and replace with another) try out a pipe repair clamp.. approx $20.. brilliant fix, just need a spanner to tighten it up.
Always wear antivibration gloves whilst using brushcutters & hedge Trimmers.
Your Hands will love you for it. Have a break every 40 minutes too.

I am just starting my own gardening business and really appreciate all the helpful tips here. It's great to see so many people happy to have new guys like me start up and offer them advice.
make sure you finish the day with a icy cold beer or 2
White vinegar is great for getting rid of grass stains on tiles etc.... Just wipes off.
If you have to mow wet grass, Buy a BBQ brush to give the catcher a quick Brush, Tapp & scrape. Works a treat and you can leave it on the mower. Mine floats around between the motor and the rear chute.
Great for scraping under the deck when your done too.
+1
I clean all my stuff regularly too. Hose it down in the backyard (except hedge trimmers) I pull the sprocket covers off the chainsaws, lay all the bits out & off I go, whips, blowers, mowers too. Just make sure the engines are cold & you tip the mower towards the oil filler cap if it's a Honda or a Rover.
Carry a spare zip starter assembly for your whip in your toolbox.
Buy the same brand whip, pole hedger & polesaw; you'll always have spare parts on hand if things go wrong.
When buying a chainsaw, research is everything! All of the cheapies & most of the name brand home owner/farmer saws have plastic crank cases. Including Stihl & Husqvarna. Don't be fooled into buying by a brand name! One of the saws with the worst reputation in chainsaw circles is a Stihl MS390 (or the updated MS391), along with it's little brother the MS290. But people buy them because they're a "Stihl" saw. When you're thinking of buying a particular saw, google the brand name & model number. There will be plenty of feedback out there to guide you. Just remember, there is no such thing as a Chinese "Pro" saw. Clear as mud?
