I realise they are doing their job, but you've gotta ask who is making the rules that they enforce?? And why are there some that will give you a warning and show some understanding to the situaution and others give you a ticket??
The government make the rules and the Police only enforce them.
Dont give the govt any ideas about eating ect when driving, they might make that a new law as well. I just know when your driving and on the phone you do get involved in some conversations and not watching 100% the roads, especially when your trying to steer with your knees, and write down a new customers details with one hand and hold the phone in the other. They can ban smoking while driving though, especially when you mow near a busy road and the butts just turn into white crap.

As for the cops on the radio, they have an exemption in the law along with the other emergency organisations. Hypocritical you may say, and i agree that is, but what do you do.

Well that's a gross generalisation if ever I've seen one. I am actually a bit offended on behalf of my brother and all other honest, hard working police out there.

Sure there are some crooks out there...as there are in all areas of life but lets not tar everyone with the same brush.

so if all cops are criminals does that mean all criminals are cops also if something goes wrong i hope your not a hypocrite who asks someone they hate for help
Anything Ian says may or may not be garbage, it may also be his own opinion or it may not be his opinion at all, it may just be something he felt like stating anyone following his advice does so at their own risk and may be doing something Ian would actually advise against.
And if you don't like what Ian has to say use the ignore function if you don't know how ask i will gladly tell you

You are an absolute di@khead for making such a stupid comment like that.

My father in law was a Deputy Commissioner in NSW until he retired hurt from duties. Here was a policeman who was a real legend in the force and received many bravery awards and recommendations. This bloke was the first copper on sight at the Granville train distaster and likewise with the Milperra bikie massacre. He got badly injured at the Bathurst bikie riots and headed up the Tactical Response Unit when it existed.

He was no criminal that is for sure.

Others in my family are also in the force so i am telling you i am deeply offended at your comments.

Get a life and i hope you get pulled over my the cops tomorrow for speeding or something.

Lethal, what are you talking about? Were you pissed when you wrote that? For the record I was an army cop (alright, only an RP, but hey, it's still a cop!) & I have been a prison officer. On top of that my best man at my wedding is a cop (and he's also an ex soldier & an ex screw). I also spent a good chunk of my life helping cops put bad guys away as a surveillance operator/manager at a Casino. Like someone else said, you get your bad ones in all walks of life, but i never struck any in all my dealings with them that I'd call crims, just the opposite in fact! And I worked with a lot of them.

I really dont care if that offended anyone as the reason I wrote it is the way that alot of them think that they can get away with anything that they want to...I have no criminal record yet I get pulled over for speeding(fair enough) I get out of the car and try to explain that I just got a phone call saying that my 11 yr old son for some reason climbed onto the roof of our house and fell through the skylight onto his head and am trying to rush home to see if he is ok(I am no more than 5 mins from home at this stage) next thing I know is I am in handcuffs getting dragged over the barriers and they proceed to kick the **** out of me and at the same time they are dragging my pregnant wife out of the passengers seat all because I didn't pull over straight away and when I did I didn't remain in the car. I did pull over as soon as there was somewhere to pull over to and I did remain in the car for what seemed like an eternity so while they were doing god knows what in their car...So I eventually thought: no wukkas, ill just go up to them and let them know why I am in such a hurry and cop the fine and get home to my kid...thats when the **** hit the fan.

AND YOU HAVE THE HIDE TO CALL ME A DICKHEAD!

I will change what I said though to MOST cops instead of All cops!
    happy?

Oh and yes there are alot of shyte lawnies out there too but I wont get into that one, I am sure that all the lawnies on here are great at what they do....otherwise none of you would come on here to gain knowledge and advise that is always available on here.

BTW I thought we were all allowed to have our own opinion?
Everyone has an opinion, it doesn't mean that everyone has to agree with that opinion or that the opinion is indeed correct, but that opinion is not wrong either, it is just an opinion!

Yes, you had a bad experience with a copper and that is not good. Not all cops are good, i grant you that.

As you said not all cops all criminals, either are most, perhaps you should say 'a small proportion of cops may be criminals'.

What that copper did to you was not criminal, but he or she was obviously a di@khead.

    Use of mobile phones
The driver of a vehicle (except an emergency vehicle or police vehicle) must not use a mobile phone that the driver is holding in his or her hand while the vehicle is moving, or is stationary but not parked, unless the driver is exempt from this rule under another law of this jurisdiction.

Use, in relation to a mobile phone, includes the following:

holding the phone to, or near, the ear (whether or not engaged in a phone call)
writing, sending or reading a text message on the phone
turning the phone on or off
operating any other function of the phone.
However, a mobile phone can be important in an emergency. If you need to use your mobile phone to call for help, stop and park safely where you will not endanger other road users.

A driver may use a mobile provided the phone:

is secured in a commercially designed holder fixed to the vehicle, or
can be operated by the driver without touching any part of the phone.
Research shows that dialling and talking on a mobile phone while driving can lead to:

Riskier decision making - Deciding when it is safe to turn in traffic is a complex task. Using a mobile phone while driving affects judgement and concentration and you may fail to choose a safe gap. When making a decision to turn across oncoming traffic, you also tend not to consider the environmental conditions such as, when it is raining or the roads are slippery. If you don’t make safe turns you could crash.
Slower reactions - You generally react slower when using a mobile phone, particularly when you’re deep in conversation. You may take longer to respond to traffic signals or completely miss them.
Slower and less controlled braking - During a mobile phone call your brake reaction time is slower, and you brake with more force and less control which results in shorter stopping distances available between yourself and the car in front.
Wandering out of your lane - You’re more likely to wander out of your lane when you’re using a mobile phone, even on a straight road with little traffic.
Not being alert to your surroundings - When using a mobile phone, you tend to spend less time checking your mirrors and what’s going on around you. This affects your ability to monitor and negotiate traffic safely.
Tips for using a mobile phone safely
    Use voicemail
Pull over safely and park to make or receive a call
Plan breaks in your trip for phone calls
Tell your family and friends not to call when you know you’ll be driving
Tell callers you are driving and may have to end the call
Don’t make calls in heavy traffic, poor road conditions or bad weather
Never read or send text messages.
Television receivers and visual display units in motor vehicles
A driver must not drive a motor vehicle that has a television receiver or visual display unit in or on the vehicle operating while the vehicle is moving, or is stationary but not parked, if any part of the image on the screen:

is visible to the driver from the normal driving position, or
is likely to distract another driver.
This rule does not apply to the driver if:

the driver is driving a bus and the visual display unit shows, a destination sign or other bus sign
the visual display unit is, or is part of, a driver’s aid
the visual display unit is a mobile data terminal fitted to a police vehicle or an emergency vehicle
the driver or vehicle is exempt from this rule under another law of this jurisdiction.

Much as I agree with banning mobile use while driving, I can't see a whole lot of difference between that and using a GPS (visual aid is part or is part of a driver's aid), talking on a CB radio, playing with the radio/stereo, or even eating. They all take your attention away from the task at hand. I must admit though, mobile use while driving seems to outnumber all the others put together.

To be honest the only thing you should be doing while driving is driving. Cars are bloody dangerous and need full concentration regardless of how experienced you are. That 1 second you look away for whatever reason could be the moment some drunk idiot cuts across in front of you. If heavy fines are required to stop people, myself included, being so stupid then so be it. I always use a bluetooth speaker when I talk on the phone. If I forget to turn bluetooth on then I won't answer it. But I am sometimes guilty of texting at red lights. I can live without it though. So if fines and suspensions save lives bring em on I reckon!
