If the lawn is well maintained and cut regularly and weeds are not left to seed mulching will be fine.

If your only cutting the lawn every now and and the lawn has weeds that have gone to seed the mulcher will spread them around.

Mulching also adds to thatch build up over time making it hard for water and nutrients to penetrate... I prefer catching.

mulching is quicker but if catching is better for the lawns then i will stick with what im doing. Thanks for the input.

hmmmm, i'd question the intelligence behind that myth.

    Look at the logic!

If you add soil, leaves grass clippings etc, around the base of plants like rhododendrons, you get roots shooting from the base of the tree, these send up shoots which become new plants (rhododendrons are prpbably a bad example here, but it the first one i thought of).

The same principle applies to lawn grass. The more organic matter around the ligule and auricles of a grass plant the more likely it will send out new shoots (Especially on creeping grass species).

The more new shoots that start growing, the thicker the lawn becomes. Over time with regular mulch mowing and top dressing this thickens the thatch preventing water and nutrients from getting through.

we mulch mow as much as we can.we only catch mow if the clippings from the previous mow are too thick and matting the soil surface and when its to wet to mulch mow.so far we have excellent results.

Mulching all the way, saves time, saves fuel, saves tip fees, saves the back & energy, in my case and some others no more towing a large trailer all the time, plus it does help keep in moisture when its dry...If it works do it ..

could be because the blades are cutting the grass finer for mulching.with the cather on its one cut and in catcher, less cuts by blade, less wear and tear.
