    Default Exit strategy/succession planning

    We spend considerable effort starting and building up our business. Often the very last thing we consider is how we would extract our self from it if wanted or needed. (sickness, family, finance, retirement!)

    Unless you plan on dieing at your post, as it were, it makes sense to consult a specialist in this area to ensure you have options open to you, so rather than have to formulate a plan 'on the hop', it's more a case of implementing one of the strategies already decided upon.

    Default ADP payline

    Who is ADP?
    ADP is the worlds largest provider of payroll and human resource solutions, with over 30 years of experience in Australia and the only organisation that can provide a complete solution for all companies.

    How does ADP Payline work?
    Clients provide ADP Payline with the hours their employees worked for the given pay period by phone, fax or internet. ADP Payline processes the pay and looks after all the administrative aspects of payroll.

    How do the employees get paid?
    ADP Payline can pay wages directly into employee bank accounts via Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT).* Alternatively, ADP Payline can also produce an Australian Banking Association (ABA) file to upload into bank software.

    Can ADP Payline advise us of Award changes?
    All ADP clients receive free access to the Australian Business Workplace Advice Line that provides Industrial Relations advice on topics including award changes.

    Does ADP Payline provide training?
    Yes, ADP offers free client training at your local ADP premises to all of our clients. Attendance is not limited, so clients may come for their first training or a refresher course, as many times as they like. How would I receive payroll reports? The overall timeline will be determined by your implementation consultant.

    Default Heating oil scam

    Got a call on mobile late last year inviting me to invest in heating oil futures.
    They promised that due to 'leveraging' and the fact that cost of heating oil increases (in US) toward end of winter, my $5,000 could easily return $100,000.

    I played along with them (without parting with any monay), even allowing them to set up an online account - but I knew they were a scam from the start.

    They couldn't or wouldn't answer some basic questions I found on the ASIC website :

    If someone cold calls you offering financial services or products, protect yourself by asking these questions:
    1. What is your name, address and phone number?
    2. Do you hold an Australian financial services licence?
    3. What is the name of the company holding the licence?
    4. What is the licence number?
    5. What is the licence holder's address?
    If the caller answers your questions
    Make a note of the details so you can check the information after the call.
    Before dealing with them any further, do these quick safety checks.
    If the caller avoids your questions, or doesn't have a licence,
    Do not deal with them. Hang up.

    If they claim they don't need a licence because:
    They are based overseas
    Hang up. Anyone ringing a person in Australia and offering financial advice or products must be licensed in Australia to do so.

    Scams are definitely on the increase.

    Remember : If it's just too good to be true, it likely is!

    Holders of AFSL's and their authorised represenatives are bound by the Corporatations Act. Section 992A of the Corporations Act specifically prohibits cold calling/selling or promoting of financial products through unsolicited contact with prospective clients.

    If you are contacted by someone who tries to do this, get their details and then advise them they are in Breach and you will report them to ASIC and the ACCC

    Thanks geoff - a closer look at forum rules shows I need to be more cautious re: advertising.

    Of interest - forum rules states in part "Promotional text for a commercial product or service is ok, provided there are no price(s) of product(s) or service(s) listed."

    Geoff - in your opinion, are avatars 'advertising'?
    Is showing your phone number and/or email/web address in signature 'advertising'?
    Perhaps all usernames should not relate to business names at all?

    I will continue to talk up why every business needs a good bookkeeper to help them to thrive, even as I will also talk up why every home can benefit from a gardening service.

    I will be pleased to continue passing on snippets of bookkeeping/business info that might be of benefit to members, even as I will continue to join in gardening related threads.

    Keep up the information David, I find it very helpful, I have learnt things that I had not looked at yet as I only work my business part time.
    I do believe that people should be able to put up their Jim's or VIP logo as a avatar or any other thing as long as it is appropiate.

    jims and vip logo's as with all franchises are owned buy the franchise not the franchisee so i believe the logo can be used but you must supply written authorization from the copyright owner. also in order for a franchisee to post the logo as an avatar they would have to join indy mowing as a full member of ilmaco not just the forum.
    also i would suggest that if people have a problem with the way someone displays there posts that they probably should take it up with the admin and not on the open forum where they may just look like whingers

    Despite forum rules stating "Any franchise or franchisee that wishes to use the franchise logo on the forum must have a letter signed and dated that the user is allowed to post the logo and THE LETTER must be sent to ILCOA for approval to be granted", it has been advised that regardless of such a letter and INDI membership, franchise logos, emails, webs and phone numbers and links will not be permitted - in part because of the chronic whingers. I respect that the owner of a house can set his pwn house rules. This remains a great forum to participate in.

    If I do all my accounts on MYOB what would I need to supply to a book keeper or would I really need a book keeper. I am looking further down the track when I start my business full time. I have set aside time each night to process all my paper work now.
