I have a good working relationship with them. They gave me my first 20 lawns up there and since then they have given me some firewood supply business and extra lawns. In return, I help them out whenever I can if they need an jobs done if they get stuck and they really appreciate that.

Great work there Ed,looks like a lovely spot.

This one was done today, was a week and a bit overdue to the rain ,there was an extra Fifty in the envelope without even asking for it

This is one section of the place I done the massive cleanup on last year,it's now on a 12 monthly maintenance plan.

ive got a few customers like that (worth gold imo) that just trust me, and arent interested in how i got to a price, they just pay no questions.

different to a "lady" i had ring me about 6 foot high grass, hasnt been mowed in 3 months (tee hee she goes, give me a CHEAP price) - sons rental exit (wonder if she still breast feeds him?) - i estimated 4 to 5 hours and 10 cubic metres of clips, quoted $350, all was going well, (wasnt HAPPY about price, but still talking) then i said id want money up front as its always tenant exits that are bad payers. Told me not to bother.

lol wonder if that means she was intending to shaft me?

i always do em by eye, sorry.

balls are the hardest imo, especially when they are on a 4 or 5 foot trunk, you get the sorest shoulders changing direction and aspect with the hedger.

    whats a holler hoop tender?

I usually use my little stihl hedger to do balls. Seems easier. I work on splitting the ball in two halves in my mind. I stand back to guange how large the ball will look, then start from the bottom to the middle, all the way around, then use the bottom to guage how the top should look. Not sure if that make sense, but it works for me. Particulary for the very large balls. I still use the coin method to do a final check of the eye finish.

Tender when I did standards I always cut a little bit at a time, then stood back 10m and see how it looked. Then look at the bit that needs more cut off and cut a little more again. You have to be really careful with standards because if you cut too much off, you have to trim a little off the whole bush to get it even again. I actually did them with hand shears most of the time as I felt I could get better control and use the tips of the blades to get exactly where I want to get.

When there were a line of them I also would look at the lowest standard in height, and trim it lightly, then go to the tallest and trim it harder so it is at the same height as the lowest, then it is much easier to get the rest of them at the same height. Just keep standing back to see if they match.

i use the same technique as stripes, though believe it or not i use a pole hedger with the blades at about 20 degrees. often to get a proper ball it is an evolving process and it will take several hedges to get them right. i havent used a hoola hoop, but it does sound like a good idea, though you do get a better idea i think if ou stand back as said above. also you want to quote well. i would also drop the box hedge a little too so that the standards have a better definition.
