We have had heaps of brown snakes in Western Sydney (residential suburbs)... i've only seen 1...

got to be careful where u walk and aware of your surroundings!

A blue toungue lizzard got me a beauty last week... i'm sure it's still laughing at my reaction

We do ? Gees, glad i spend most of my time on the North Shore and Hills District.
In my 8years of working i have never seen a snale (touch wood), only seen plenty of redback spiders and 2 funnel webs.

Our local council has put signs up with warnings!!!

One of my customers in Quakers Hill had one 2 weeks ago in the back yard (around 3 metres) anywhere that backs onto a river, lake, creek, reserve or bushland they will most likely be there.... it could be anywhere across sydney.

There would be heaps in the hills district and north shore as it is full of bushland and this dry weather isn't helping.

How to keep them away... have really short grass

Those Blue Tongues must just love scaring the clappers out of humans, until we realise they arn't a slider.

In my 40 years of living in the western suburbs of Sydney I have never seen a wild snake......or a funnel web spider for that matter.

Both Holroyd city Council and Boral have erected snake warning signs along the Canal Reserve for good reason.

There have been many sightings of red bellied black snakes and brown snakes along the Canal Reserve and other cycleways that connect. It has obviously been a good breeding season so please take care when enjoying the reserve and if you see a snake, give it a wide berth.

The signs are also placed throughout Pemulwuy... where i seen the snake.

The crazy thing is, if you have a snake in your house or yard... by law they need to be relocated in the same environment... so the snake handler will put it back into your yard or a neighbours without any warning

Brown snakes are the 2nd most venomous snake in the world... It's scary to think they are within 500m from my house in the natural habitat (or closer). luckily, there are only 2 -3 fatal deaths a year from snakes in Australia (majority of these are brown snakes).

Anyone going bushwalking in grasslands, bush or even the mountains etc should be really careful and usually there are no warning signs to remind people to be aware or alert.

A few years ago there was a brown snake a few houses down from my mates place in Knightsbridge estate (backs onto the bush between Glenhaven and Castle Hill). I came across a Red Belly in Seven Hills at a job that backs onto a creek/grasslands, and I almost stepped on a carpet python at a job in Galston. If you do jobs near bushland just be careful because they are there! Red belly's kill Brown snakes from what Ive been told, so they say if there are red Belly's around there are most likely no browns.

One of my regular jobs, take about 3 hours, all whippy and rideon......a nice old lady in her 70s, only too happy to pay out for the job, always cash on the day.

The bit on the other side of the mower is all whippersnipper stuff.....too many rocks.

That's about right....usually it's about 3 weeks, she rings when it needs doing.....but so far this summer "growing season" it's been 4-5 weeks.

Nice Blacktop, i'm figuring with all this dry weather you are probably only mowing it monthly this summer.
