    Question Mowing/Gardening rate

    Hey all

I know a lot of you guys specialise in mowing/lawn care etc & some don't venture into the gardening side of things at all. My question is... if you do both equally...would you charge the same rate for both??? I know that you are charging for your time but often with gardening there is less motorised equipment used therefore less fuel, maintenance, parts, replacement costs etc. Any thoughts??? Perhaps charging different rates gets a bit messy

    Thanks all

    Lindy

I charge according to what job I am doing and which equipment I am using.
For instance I try to quote at $70 ph for ride-on work. $35-$40 for push mowing. $35 ph for weeding. $45 ph for hedging/pruning. But I am quite flexible depending on the customer.

Even though you are not using your motorised equipment when gardening, remember it has to be payed for or earn its keep, so it still has to come into your hourly rate.

If you are being undercut on your quotes I always ask if someone is cheaper than me that they have checked their insurance? In NSW if they are not insured for workers comp and public liability, the homeowner could be faced with a huge insurance claim if there was an accident! I am charging $50+ per hour for gardening work, and rarely do I have anyone question the cost .

    Heres a tip

if a man that is slower and has hand tools for the job

he will be one price say 25.00 an hour

he takes 4 hours to do the job = 100 dollars

Another guy does the same job with power tools and is much quicker

he will be one price say 45.00 an hour

he takes two hours to the job = 90 dollars

    customer saved 10.00

what can slow a man down age, ability, confidence, mentallity, tooling etc

educate your client as you are quoting

    ALL MEN ARE MADE EQUAL

    ALL WORKERS WORK DIFFERENTLY

I think $30-$40/hr for weeding/ pruning is not to expensive when you consider that you take away most times the waste ,and if you take it to tip you get charged a tip fee by weight, therfore I charge a tip fee on top of my hourly rate

Here in NSW its $15min for the tip. So yes i charge on top for huge amount of waste.
if im doing smaller jobs, i split the tip fee up a little, but not too much cos its still my time to go to the tip. I never go less then $35/hr now. (for the oldies I do)

Charge $35 per hour for pruning and weeding if they let me leave the waste. In our area all homes have green waste bins that are emptied fortnightly.

If they don't want me to leave it behing then I add $35 on at the end for tip fees (it's $25 here, even for green waste, plus $10 for my time and petrol as I am nowhere near a tip).

Most people end up letting me leave the stuff in their green waste bins.

Hey guys just wondering what everyone's current rate is?

    Am I too cheap?

Minimum charge for any job is $40, whether it's a five minute mow, adjusting a door in ten minutes etc.
    Gardening/Hand Mowing/ Hedging etc I charge $50 per hour
Boom spraying I charge around $70
If there is excessive waste I charge $130 per trailer load (I get 2-3 cubic in my trailer)
For ride on mowing with my John Deere Z925A I charge around $90 - I mow my neighbour's nature strip in all of 3 minutes compared to 20 minutes previously.

Obviously big contracting jobs/sunday jobs/crappy jobs/ etc this increases.

There's a crowd that gets me to do work for them who charge 30% margin and we've never lost a quote.
So that essentially means a big job of $530 would be $680
I'm here scratching my head trying to work out, why people whinge at $50 per hour, yet at $65 they'll gladly pay????
