    Independents Day

A Current Affair is turning up the heat on the giant oil companies once again by forcing prices down in this unprecedented battle of the bowsers - They are calling it "Independents Day!"

This morning between 8am and 9am, independent petrol stations will be slashing their prices to just 99 cents a litre.

Here's where you can find those independent petrol stations offering cheap petrol.

I see some operators offering every 5th or 6th service free. Not sure how they do without the turnover but it seems to work for them.

I chose a different route offering a $30 fuel voucher every time a customer accrues $300 in services. On average thats close to the equilivant of every 10th service free.

We just move 10% of total bankings into a seperate account and draw on that when a fuel gift voucher is due. ONLY regular (pre-booked) customers qualify for the offer.

I also use Woolworths Essentials gift card as I have been told you can still get the 4 cents a litre off (When using the gift card).

I too like this idea Eric and I think it is far more topical at the moment than a free mow

Example if the cut is worth 35.00 every two weeks you charge 40.00 give the free one on the 6th mow its cost you 10 bucks .

    Customers Happy your happy .

Remember nothing is for free when you think about it .

AND YOU USE THE FREE CUT AS ADVERTISING SPENT AND CLAIM AS A TAX DEDUCTION YOU THEN WILL COME OUT IN FRONT .

Thats why they do it .

So, your giving the customer $10 off the 6th cut... not a free cut

Good to know there are still ethical marketing & business practices in the Horticultural industry

The fuel offer i use is Tax deductable too. And i still make the $10 on the 6th cut.

"Today Tonight" started that a few months back. I didn't follow it as it was only mainland petrol stations involved. But it was the same principal... they got behind the independents and promoted the cheapest price etc,

    "Sunrise" also done something similar.

Prices dropping, and saw tonight some 'experts' think it might go as low as $1 a litre. That will be great if it does.

Do you think customers will start asking for a price reduction on lawns now it's cheaper?

That's what I mean, if you had put them up, probably saying that rising fuel prices were a major factor, would they now turn round and demand a cheaper cut?

Possibly if you used petrol prices as your only reason for increasing prices.
