Anything Ian says may or may not be garbage, it may also be his own opinion or it may not be his opinion at all, it may just be something he felt like stating anyone following his advice does so at their own risk and may be doing something Ian would actually advise against.
And if you don't like what Ian has to say use the ignore function if you don't know how ask i will gladly tell you
None...I deleted my original reply but it would let me save it so i had to say something so I did.

I started as a Jim.Was my easy (in) to a business, working for myself. Had a mortgage and other bills. I had one week off after quitting my job and had instant turnover once i became a jim. I could not have afforded to start out with nothing and slowly build. In the end i found i could do pretty well without the ongoing fees. Here i am now proudly independant.
Horses for courses. There are reasons for starting out indy. There are reasons for buying into a franchise. Both can be rewarding, depending on your reasoning and your ultimate goal.

After just two years Jim’s Chief Operations Officer – Richard Reid is no longer with Jim’s.
Was he cut, or did he run?
I wonder if he has returned to running a car wash?

I believe that Phil Maunder, previous CEO who quit and was superseded by Richard Reid, is coming back again.

23.5 hp massey with a 4'6" slasher. It's a compact jobby but cuts down long grass as good as a bigger machine.

I understand that you don't care, however there are Indi members, also members, ex-members and prospective members of Jim's that do take an interest, and was inviting someone within the franchise to offer comment.
My understanding is :
Phil left and Richard joined around a time of negative publicity - where some (many?) franchisors tried to vote Jim out.
There was also legal action at that time by a disgruntled sacked franchisor that was met head on by Jim.
I find it amusing that Phil left at this time (the papers quoted him as saying he planned on leaving, but the negative publicity brought his decision forward), and then now that the dust has settled he rejoins the fold.
I also found other newspaper comments amusing, namely, that a man who was overwhelmed in running another business and was fined a record sum for failure to pay his people correctly, became No.2 of Australia's second largest franchise

"Mr Reid, of Malvern, was fined $207,900 for underpaying or completely failing to pay the wages of five employees aged 18 to 62."

I am amused at newspaper reports quoting Jim P as saying he does not believe that Richard did anything wrong.
I am also amused that Richard did not disclose this, or that Jim's own due diligence did not uncover this prior to his formal engagement.
Further, another newspaper reports : "When questioned face-to-face, Mr Reid initially misled Progress Leader about his identity, claiming he bought the business from Richard Reid a year ago."
I don't certify the above is 100% correct, but is my understanding from articles and editorials from various papers.
So while you might have no interest, I do find the unfolding saga at Jim's World of some entertainment value, and am sure others will too.

thanks GNG, always good to hear about these sort of things, after all they are the biggest in our industry, so naturally what happens effects us in one way or the other.
