If the pita comes from the call centre then yes you pay the fee, but its only a few bucks and the next job you convert more than covers it.

So you don't have to continue paying the fee if you dump the client?

Depends on the contract your on, me im an old 1 that "pita" would cost me 25cents a month, as for the new guys im not sure how it works for them. Once you do a split your fees drop, the more ya do the lower they go, i got 1 happening after Xmas and plan another by June. Build up sell off, im planning on doing 1-2 a year for the next few years, make some nice kanga for holidays, cars, boats, etc etc

I'm a Jim's Mowing franchisee wife, all i can say is DON'T DO IT.

In my humble opinion that are the worse franchisers, i've worked for franchise organisations (i.e. head offices) and Jim's has to take the prize for the crappiest of all.

Advertising is no existant unless you hound them, but of course they take their advertising fees each month from us.
Support well whats that? If someone in the Sydney office actually returned a call then i would fall of my chair in shock.

We have been with Jim's for under a year now and are already taking steps to get the hell out of it and work as an independant.

well over a year now and I believe has served it's purpose so I'm closing it .

Well with the big freeze in England i guess our fellow lawnies will be buying snow blowers and the franchise called Jims will be strapped for cash and alot of money will come out of the company in Australia to hold it up .

    cheers
3000 businesses would close? His might and probably quite a few others but thats why they bought a franchise, because they cant operate and run a business. It is done for them. If some of these guys had a brain they would be doing what we do but they cant. I do great business out of Jims, they are my best client and I for one wont be sad to see them go. I have t compete with 20, I said 20 Jims operators working in my area of the Latrobe Valley. There a are probably 6 of us Indies here who make a very good living and probably 20 more beer money operators who kick around too. I feel sorry for a few of the Jims guys here they are good operators and nice guys (I make a point of talking to as many operators as I can) but they will fall one their feet if Jims goes under. If you cant make your business work for you, if you dont have a good accountant/business manager then you will be in trouble if it goes pear shaped. Id start looking for a job Cammos if I were you cause I dont think you know how to operate a business.

Jeez that's a bit harsh AdrianH. Most of the Jim's guys run good businesses or they would not survive. Being in Jim's doesn't make their business run. They buy the brand and what goes with it but they still have to do their own business work. Jim's doesn't do their books for them.

I have said it before and will say it again the Jim's boys are really no different to us . The only difference is that they have a united banner to operate under but it is one that brings them a fair bit of extras along the way. Although they are paying pretty handsomely for it via their franchise fees.

From the outside looking in it appears to me a lot of Jimmies go bust in the first 6 months and then their area gets resold. That's something that should be of concern to the organisation but I get the feeling that it is just part of their business model.

We have a swag of Jim's working over here. They get their share of the work but so do the Indies. There's plenty to go around. Despite their branding from what some former Jim's clients tell me there are still a few in thier midst who do a sub standard job. Just the same as there are a few in the Indies who do as well. I capitalise on that and pick up these clients when they come to me.

Running your business still takes the same skills regardless of whether your an Indy or a franchisee.

    Well said Bluey. But........

You can understand why some Indi's have a dislike for there organization. In some parts of Australia Jims does make it very hard for us Indi's, just one example is how hard it is to compete on a level playing field when there advertising budget for the year would be more than what i would earn in several years. So with this in mind you can understand if some Indi's would love to see it go under. Doesn't make it right, but you can understand the anger that is directed towards the company itself in some of the posts on here.

Jeez i tell you what whoever it is Jim P has pi**ed off they are after him. Just doing some checks on my web page and noticed the Google Adsense box has an ad for the website The Truth About Jim Penman. I mean it is one thing to have a barney but to run an advertising campaign in Google is getting a bit low
