cool edbeek , your sound like the one i was looking at on ebay = alloy , should = less flexing in it , im not to bad with the file but a quick gentle touch up with one of them helps to keep them cutting straight ,
    cheers

This one looks not too bad. Still some el-cheapo bits on it but compared to the price of an Oregon or Carlton you''ve got to expect that.

I ran 3 chains through it this evening but haven't tried them out yet. I can see it was fixing up my filing inaccuracies. All the teeth are the same now.

Probably won't use the saw again till Monday so I'll let you know then.
I bought one of those cheapo ones and they are pretty crappy... they flex so much its impossible to get the right angles and even grinding on each link... i asked the mower shop what he recommended and he said the best thing is the standard file kits (also the cheapest) said just need the skill and will give you the best finish... so i bought one and haven't looked back... surprised how quick filing is ... and incredibly sharp ...

im interested to know how you go with the better alloy type though!

They're good units. I picked up a rotary broadcast spreader from an ex-VIP guy at Forest Lake recently for about the same money.

Good luck with it, it's supplied by AGR Machinery who have a bad rep for service backup. Hope you can all the parts from local mower shop.

I got 2 of them and they are both 2 years old from AGR. I have had 1 gearbox go in 1 of them, I have had an axel break, the drive dogs have gone in 1 thats about it pretty normal I think. They take genuine honda parts and you can get parts from AGR as well, Dean sells heaps of parts so I will be getting things from him and Waratah Mowers recon there is no difference between them and the genuine honda except a difference of $800. I got it because I think I will be needing some help this summer and if 1 breaks down then I have a spare..
    Cheers

Hi Geoff, Yes I cut 2 loads this morning with it. All good

Saw cuts better than when I was hand filing the chain. I don't have any probs filing 3/8 chains on the small saws, but I just couldn't get the the .404 just right with the file.

There is one (maybe BBT) that has a cam-lock on the guide to lock the link being sharpened, that might last a bit longer but I think that model is a bit dearer. Mine is threaded steel into the alloy so I don't think it will strip too quickly.

Even the plastic bits on it shouldn't cause too much drama as you don't have to stress anything. You work it all very gently anyway.
