when you level a deck, is it right to have the blades in the engaged position (with the motor off) then measure from blade tip to ground front and back and side to side? From my reading the front blade ground clearance should be 5-10mm lower than the back. If I'm right mine was too high at the back by about 3cm's. I've levelled it now.

Can anyone recommend a small hour metre for the cox ride on and possibly also the honda SP. It's in order to keep track of hours for oill changes. Would this do the trick and will it work on a 4 stroke?

    Yes.
Look at the specs for what they can do. - hours worked, tacho, service interval reminder etc.
Some can be reset to zero, some are not.
You just wrap the sense cable around a/the plug lead and then (by pushing some buttons on front) set how many spark pulses there are per crank revolution (1 for a 2 stroke, 1 for a 4 stroke with a simple magneto ignition and 2 for a 4 stroke with proper distributor etc).
Some have facility where you can set the service interval and a warning indicator comes on when interval is reached.

If your machine has a battery, then you can also use a simple hour meter that is powered from battery and just ticks over the hours when the 'ignition switch' is on.
These work on diesels (the other type will not for obvious reasons - no spark pulse).
This is what I have on my Gator.
These are also avail on eBay.

Seee how you go Steveo, I adjusted my 42" 3 blade deck. I lifted the back more its now 40mm difference from back to the front, I'ts was only 15mm. At 15mm it was a beautiful cut and mulched great. but the back of the deck was building up with grass.

After raising to 40mm the clippings are thrown further, the deck doesnt get blocked as much, and have noticed a huge improvement on cutting speed and reduced engine load in longer grass. The front deck is where all the cutting is done now, its definitely a improvement.

Still mulched great and lays down good strips.

1/8 to 1/4" for ztrs is usually what they recommend. If you go too high in the back you could end up with a wavy kind of look.... UUU kinda thing. Done that myself when the deck wasnt levelled properly at delivery!
I like Tinytac for hour meter and RPMs. Also a resettable timer for jobs.

I hadn't noticed any issues with the cut quality before dropping the rear of the deck 30mm. It's now 10-15mm higher at the back. Be interesting to see how it goes when I get something to mow.

ALDI- 8/8/15, Just saw the Special buys book, 31cc 4 stroke line trimmer straight shaft $179.

Because of the 60 day money back warranty I reckon its worth a go. The Parklander multitool I use is going strong but it'll blow up sooner or later.

So the Aldi one looks like it'll be number one for me and the multi can be rested. All I have to do is change the head to what I normally use. (just saying if you'se need a cheap spare)

Ok, got this yesterday, little bit heavier than my usual one, but after a couple of mods,as in made up a 'trimmer assist' and put on the 4 cord trimmer head it works just fine.
Its only domestic use but I reckon with the amount of work I do its a good thing.

been using the aldi ratchet loppers for a season or two now with no issues. Yesterday bought the aldi loppers, they are a different design, heavier and more complicated looking. They call them gears rather than ratchet. Be interesting to see how they go compared to the old ones.
