Default Guide to Feral/Jungle Clean Ups (Please add tips)

I am going to allocate maybe a couple of days specifically for just big jungle jobs and will advertise on paper only for this type of work.

What are your best procedure for overgrown brush/scrub?
*Do you round up first upon winning the job after the quote?
*Do you just cut them as close to the ground or pull it all out? If pulling them all out what is the most efficient way to do so.
*Step by step assessment and quoting.
*Tips and Tricks for difference machinery and tools used
*What's the best way to complete a professional finish when it's done?

Plan the job as you quote the job, walk over again once you set your price (I have change a quote hundreds of dollars doing this), get a feel for client and what they expect, get a feel for yard and what it's going to be like in 6 months, submit quote; explain all that is going to be done then price.

Each one is different, remember the timeframe you had in your head when you quoted cause you have to aim to beat it.

Tackle big impact areas to start with, sometimes this will be gardens sometimes this will be lawn.

When it comes to trees, some should be poisoned like anything that is not wanted and will grow back if you don't get every last root (like crepe myrtle) others will die if by being cut off other will need to be dug out.

When it comes to plants, take the dead stuff and anything crossing over and give it some shape if it needs it.

When it comes to grass, brushcut, mow and collect or mow/mulch.

Clear paths, and edges, most people are visual people so clean paths and edges will make them happy. Look over your job!

There's heaps more but that's all I can think of for now.

with spraying it all depends on the time frame to do the job if i have a week or so from ok to actual real start i will spray the weeds as i think this gives a better result also i think it's better to brushcut dead weeds than ones with an extra weeks growth if i don't have any lead time i will mainly brushcut to the ground only pulling if i really have to
Anything Ian says may or may not be garbage, it may also be his own opinion or it may not be his opinion at all, it may just be something he felt like stating anyone following his advice does so at their own risk and may be doing something Ian would actually advise against.
And if you don't like what Ian has to say use the ignore function if you don't know how ask i will gladly tell you

Ive just placed an ad on the local paper.

    Jungles Only
    0424 ### ###

Just a simple one with the biggest font possible.

    Around 27 a week.

Hopefully I have made the right choice and well prepared for it.

I still put out flyers in my suburb for regulars. At least I know I am the big fish in a smaller pond rather than small fish in a large pond. Thats for the small regular cuts that is.

I am aiming for $200 plus, $60 plus type work I can do outside my suburb around town. I have allocated a couple of days just for this so I dont have to worry about my second job somewhere else. I will be condensing all my rounds on 2-3 days in the same suburb which is good enough to be making me sufficient living

Maybe instead of Jungles Only, put something like Specialising in Overgrown/neglected properties, or End of lease clean ups or something along those lines. Jungles only is a bit vague and customers may not know what you mean by that.

If you get the end of lease work and dealing with the owners after the tenants have left and left the place a mess, remember the money paid to you could come from the tenants bond, or insurance if it is really bad, so don't be shy when quoting.
If you don't already have it, get yourself a very powerful brushcutter as soon as you can afford it. I have a 48CC Kawasaki that I use on cleanups and it smashes it down in no time. It makes an unbelievable difference. You can also run thicker cord on it to reduce your time changing cord.

Whoops too late. Ive already booked the ad. Will see how it goes for the first 2 weeks. Then Ill change it.

I do have kawasaki trimmer but only 27cc. However, I have 4 blades to choose from so I dont bust it using only cord. It slices through brush like nothing. Plus it makes a lovely "ting, ting, ting" noise.

Yea Ive always had problems with quoting even now, but I might as well jump in head first because theres not many people here who does it let alone have half a day to complete a job.

I got my 48cc for about $790, so if you are thinking about specialising in clean ups, look into buying one. I have the 34cc Kawa and it has nothing on the 48cc! Massive difference, not that the 34 isn't powerful.

Find out what is most important to the customer, some customers just like to make sure that their driveway is clear, others want their back yard to be level as the day it was originally bulldozed. It's hard to guage what's important to each customer so ask. Renters will usually tell you they are renting and you know that they are not going to be interested in a full make over they just want it to look good and be safe and they want their bond back. Owners may have a plan for their yard/garden, some might be about to bull doze others might be planning things for years to come.

Knowing which customer is which and what their expectations are is key. It's no use putting in a $3000 quote for a tennant that just wants their $1200 bond back, but if they own the place and you show interest in their gardens/yard long term plan then a $3000 quote might be the go. But you'll need help so get another Indy to quote with you and get it done in half the time!

And yes get a big brushcutter with bull horns if you can afford it. You'll be thankfull you did when you spend a few hours straight brushcutting.

oh and I've said it before, everytime you have to change tools or fill up with fuel, have a mouth full of drink, your body will thank you at the end of the day.

water or another nonalcoholic drink is probably the best idea

Yeah it's hard to mow straight lines after alcoholic drinks and hedges might look like Edward Scissor hand cut them but when you turn up for the second day the owner walks you.

Roundaup/glyphosate works on contact with suface area.
Either poison and return a few days later, or don't clear as low - leaving contact area for roundup to touch.
