check the length of your cord. if it's to long it will put to much load on the clutch and your machine will cut out. i had the same problem with mine.
How long should the cord be?Originally Posted by luey

Till your safty gard cuts it...
I had the same issue with mine too.
Last week i found one small blade of grass in the fuel tank.
Took me for ever to get it out.
Now... No more issues.
Someone told me that if you get anything inside the fuel tank i.e. blade of grass, it can wrap around the fuel filter limiting the fuel to the carby....
Hi guys, I too am now having a similar issue with my Honda UMK425.
After a few lawns, it just wont start up at all.
Sometimes, half way through a job it stalls and wont start. I give it a break for around 20 minutes and it goes again.
I called the mechanic and he said the valves need adjusting. A quick 5 minute job,. He reckons when the engine heats up, the valves get out of whack and need adjusting.
Any ideas on this?

hey guys!
i never did post my solution
ok, what i found the problem was something to do with not enough air in the fuel tank, caused by a fuel cap that was not breathing (or something to do with the vacuum, who knows).
the machine goes great for ages and ages, then all of a sudden just want to die, so i loosen the fuel cap while it is idling, to let the air, just for a minute or so to let the whole system breath, tighten the fuel cap back up and everything works perfect!

Weird.... Ill give that a try

in most engines it's a piece of fine mesh inside the exhaust outlet if it clogs up with carbon it stops the exhaust venting resulting in lower power output so make sure you keep it clean (some people just throw them out ) to clean you can use a fine wire brush and/or compressed air
Anything Ian says may or may not be garbage, it may also be his own opinion or it may not be his opinion at all, it may just be something he felt like stating anyone following his advice does so at their own risk and may be doing something Ian would actually advise against.
And if you don't like what Ian has to say use the ignore function if you don't know how ask i will gladly tell you
oh, and make sure you keep the thing clean, what ever is causing your problem a clean machine always works better, so give it a good clean with some kerro and an old tooth brush
clean the spark plugs
clean the spark plug arrester
flush the carbi, and get all the gunk off it
remove the muffler, carbi and spark plug and give the whole block a clean and good flush if the machine (don't clean the muffler!)
wipe it all clean with a soft cloth and leave to fully dry before reassembly (or if you have an air gun all the better)
and give it al oil change too

I read somewhere that you should press the primer bulb once on these UMK425s.
Ive been doing this for ages... I always thought i was flooding the thing by pressing it a few times. ( As per the instructions)

yeh i pump mine a half a dozen times to get the fuel in
put the choke on and go start it, but keep your fingers off the throttle and give it a few pulls to start...mine usually starts then and i turn off the choke and let it warm up a little before hitting the throttle.
so in other words it you pump the primer bulb, there is no need to apply the throttle as well when starting, or this will just flood it.
oh and when starting, nice easy steady pulls, not yanking!

could be blocked fuel filter, or muck on the jet , get it started and pull choke on and off a few times that has worked for me
is the idle up enough, might need a tickle, if you know what to do,
