Andy just make certain you don't cut them back to hard or let them get out of hand as they don't come back from being cut back hard.

Thanks for that, I was pretty nervous before hand for that reason so started in the section furtherest away to get used to it. All of my new ones have been pretty well maintained so there's plenty of surface to cut back to. One however looks like someone has been pushed over into it, I'm going to experiment to see if I can get it to patch up over time.

Good to hear some differences of opinion, teaches me the bad points so I still see through my rose coloured glasses. They all look pretty healthy around here, I can't remember any back in QLD must be right climate for them.
Favourite back in Qld were Cats Whiskers (sorry origin just came back on can't remember their proper name.)
I like Kangaroo paw, liriope, Dianella, Grvillea, Wattle, Protea, Japanese maples, the range of fruiting blossom trees, Daphne, Oleanders, Roses, Frangipani, Birch, Eucies, ok i like alot,
but my favourite tree would be Corymbia maculata - Spotted gum,
Its aussie, the texture and colour of the bark, also an awesome flooring, will one day have in my dream house. Ok yes its cos i love the floors haha.

I love my Vic indigenous stuff. I propagate them for a hobby. Favourite tree would have to be Eucalyptus Citriodora. Never get sick of the smell of them, and they have beautiful smooth white bark.
I want to die peacefully in my sleep like my Grandfather.....not screaming in terror like the passengers in his car!!!
I would have to say, my favorite plant would have to be lawn, l like my ryes / fescue grasses, you can keep that couch grass, l glad it doesent grow that well down here
e.citriodora is a lovely tree
Fruit trees of any sort for me but I do love citrus. I reckon if your going to grow a tree then you should get something in return. I could easily own an orchard.
