Don't think it's nut grass, there's no seed(yet),tends to spread out from the centre like an upturned umbrella..

I'm pretty sure its rye grass. It has the reddish purple colouring at the base, its clumping and dark green leaves. Just my 2 cents.

I'll go with annual rye-grass too. The grass blade looks too large for nut grass and nut grass doesn't have that dry sheath around the base of the blades either.

Have you left any to see what it looks like when it goes to seed?

Changing my answer from annual to perennial ryegrass on further reading. Diclofop Methyl is listed to treat Wild Oats/Black Oats and Crab Grass and is also listed for Annual Ryegrass but not sure if it does Perennial Ryegrass. It does carry the warning "Do not use on rye-grass turf" though, so fair chance it does.

The DM was mentioned to me last year when I was looking for something to treat Black Oats in turf. Never went ahead and bought it though as I could only find it in 20litre drums.

Got a couch lawn which had a hard 6 months last year from Oct - March and now it is being taken oven by this grass/weed during winter. Have done a broadleaf weed spray but need to do a follow up on this section. Can anyone identify this?

Looks like winter grass , need to apply winter grass killer before seed heads are produced.
The seeds will lay dormant until the following years autumn/winter rains and germenate if not treated. The summer heat will also kill them off.

That stuff seems to be bloody rampant this year, cant stand mowing it, the seed ends up all over everything and it looks crapp in a lawn that's been mowed.

Any ideas on the name of this weed I have in just one of my clients lawns?

Picture shows the right way up on my computer but every time I upload it it turns on it's side. Apologies if you need to turn your head sideways to make sense of it.
