My Mongrels have just started separating and splitting after about 14 months. Shame as the general structure of the boot is very good and the soles still have very minimal wear/heaps of tread left.

Going to break out the black shoe-goo and see if I can make them go a bit further.

It's funny reading the comments about the Steel Blues. I agree they are possibly the comfiest boots i have worn, but just today I have switched back to blunestones. My Steel Blues were about $30 more expensive than the Blunnies but I didn't even get 12 months out of them before they wore out. The leather on them is fine but the rubber on the soles has well and truly worn through to the spongy stuff. Am a bit disappointed.

Anyone tried the mongrel zip sides? Would be handy when I wanna call in home to use the dunny through the day. I need the ankle support of a lace up but a bit of a pain to get off in a hurry.

i wear the Mongrels http://www.safe1.com.au/product/Safe...el/261020.aspx love them 1st pair lasted about 7 months before one zip broke which i thought wasn't very long but then remembered that i do wear them 7 days a week if i can i had the boot patched so i could still wear them but can't undo the zip all the way wore them for another month or so and noticed that the leather had perished on one side where it folds as you walk still wearing them on dry days and said to the wife today that i may have to retire them until summer and wear the newer pair

Steelblue Argyle also come in a zip sided boot http://www.safety-boots.b-protected....l-blue-zip.htm
Anything Ian says may or may not be garbage, it may also be his own opinion or it may not be his opinion at all, it may just be something he felt like stating anyone following his advice does so at their own risk and may be doing something Ian would actually advise against.
And if you don't like what Ian has to say use the ignore function if you don't know how ask i will gladly tell you

same problem i have with redbacks... super comfortable but sole wears out quick as... was hoping steel blues would be better?

they have a nitrile rubber option that is heat resistant to 300 degrees... wonder if that would last longer? its $10 extra
