Default masport 800AL with 850IC engine, perfect mower?

    hi guys

so, was returning some blades for the rover (i will post that in a different thread )

and was talking to a guy who seems very knowledgeable,

he owns 11 mower stores in brissie,

has seen em all come and go,

hes got honda rip offs for $1100 (copy of 216d's) - but he WOULDNT recommend em to me as a contractor.

what he recommended, was a masport 800 AL series 21.

    21 inch

    alloy base

    850 IC briggs engine,

    (no gears, damn!!)

the discharge chute is like a hondas, the drive is next to the chute etc. not on the deck like the rovers.

now, he's got em on special for $899 (as masport gives him a good deal as he sells about 1000 of em a year.)

so my question is, who's got one, whats it cut like, what else have you had to compare it to etc.

i LOVE the 850 ic engine (heaps of grunt) and think it would catch good since the extra horses are prolly what the honda lacks.

the drive on them isnt a "clutch" type, its basically 2 pulleys with a belt, and the sp bar tightens the belt, so it wont wear out like the rover (apparently)

his opinion of the rover is pretty low, duno if its just a grudge hes got etc, just relating what he sadi to me,

so whatchez reckon, is it worth giving one a go (wifey seems resigned to me getting one if i want lol)

    thanks

haven't used one but I definitely prefer belt drives - less to go wrong, new belts are a cinch to whack on, though I've never had to, my 550 is about 15 years old on its first belt.
The first bushrangers were masport decks, they then went to steelfort (best catching deck ever made)

That sounds like one of those "danger" comments that will ultimately result in you spending the night in the dog house

Happy any dealer who dont deal with Rover will talk them down. They will sell you whatever gives them more profit. The complaint with the Masport was that the deck seems to bottom out alot in long grass with rear wheels spinning. Maybe because its quite light? Dunno.
The Rover is built like a tank, cheaper and the Rover engine has more grunt than the Briggs. Only cons are its more thirsty, and has the dead mans brake. A small clip fixes the problem if you need them running. The new blade design on my pro cut 50 are a huge improvment on the **** they were selling me before. Much wider, thicker, more pitch and last longer.

This is an old post... I'm pretty sure happy ended up getting the procut 560 with 850IC instead of the masport (well, i know he has the rover and previously the honda)

It's a shame that he hasn't been around.

    Simmo.
