    Default Swooping plovers & magpies

Who has been swooped by plovers and magpies lately.

I have a few jobs where they have nests and keep swooping at me, haven't made contact yet.

Can't wait till the eggs have hatched!!!!

I have a family of magpies that we feed daily. They come in morning and night and during the day if they see you get home. They know us and treat us well. The two last year babies will sit on my arm to feed. They don't swoop us but probably do other people. They are great to have around and very smart birds even if they are little cheeky.

Got smashed in the back of the head by a plover on Monday, they have nested in the dam spillway on a property I look after. I was picking up sticks from the high weekend winds and nearly got knocked out from behind.

Always make me laugh when a mate of mine who's a cyclist complains about magpies, he's taken to feeding them at home hoping to build some good will with the species... goodluck, they still swoop him on his way to and from work.

We used to stir up the plovers down the road at Nudgee Junior when we were kids, hours of fun testing the bravery trying to get across the oval without getting attacked.

I like it when they come around after/during mowing, and the butcher birds as well.

doing a client last year and the magpies where swooping i had just finishing raking up a nice big pile of grass when out the corner of my eye saw one coming at me i reckon he was going at a hundred miles an hour in full attact / swoop mode - me with grass rake in hand = batter up hahaha = a big loud thwack and a large plume of feathers and the mag pie doing backward somersaults at fifty miles an hour over the fence [ = over the fence is six and out } after that thay all just seemed to leave and the ones that where still hanging around where just sitting there pleasantly watching me work ........

Only bird to actually make contact (with my head grrr) while working was a butcher bird.
    The .410 sorted it out.
