    Default Brushcutter heads

How do people find the aluminium heads that take the precut line?

Are you forever putting in a new line? And isnt there a lot of wastage?

    What adventages do they have?

I cant understand them. Dont see any advatages except possibly there lighter weight giving u slightly more power, and no moving parts.I do see quite a few disadvantages, namely wasting time & material.

Never tried them but I could see them being a big time waster. Blow off a bit of it and you lose the effect. I find I am continually feeding out bits in my speed feed. There is a length of cord that i like having to do the job. You can tell when it is not right by the feel of it. I couldn't use one of the heads for that reason alone.

    Spot on!

My father inlaw was recently telling me how he's got one of those pre-cut ones now, might be alright where he is, beside a lake with only a trees to whipper snip. Try cutting back grass or plants out of a rock wall... I re-loaded an alloy head three times at least on my kawasaki and at least once on my morrison yesterday, try going through that much chord when you've got to pre-cut each bit.

It's been said before but another advantage of the alloy heads over bump feed is you can see how much you've got to go. But I can conseed with the pre-cut ones you'll always know how many you've got left in your pocket.

But you still have to stop to feed it out don't you. That is a disadvantage over the speed feed. With the speed feed the only time you stop is when you run out and then it is loaded up in seconds

This is true, and it's extra time if your wearing a harness. But since I got my first one, I haven't really looked back cause they are tough as nails.

I think those pre-cut line trimmer heads are designed for home owners. I have to reload my dads' head when ever he runs out because it's not something he does every day (like us) he is lucky to re-load his string twice a year, when it comes time to re load the trimmer head he has forgotten how to do it, it takes him a long time and he gets really cranky.

Home owners get frustrated by this and it is easier for them to feed through a pre cut piece. Time isn't so much of a consideration when you are mowing your own lawn.

As I tell my off-siders, mowing commercially and mowing your own place are two different things. If you spend all day mowing your own lawn and do a $h-t job it doesn't matter, but if you do it for a living and take all day to do one job and still do a $h-t job you won't be in business very long.

    Let's go kick some grass.

I jinxed myself with that, broke one about 2 hours later. Hit a brick and the head broke sending a chunk of the side wall off into the distance...
