"All sin is washed away in the Holy goodness of Beer"
Book of Redeye, Psalm 69
Got up this morning to go to work, I hate working Saturday , but you gotta do it when its Christmas time , go to sit down and have a cuppa tea before I put me boots on , and I kicked me little toe on the coffee table, crack , I think its broken, Got me boots on, just, its been killing me all day so I get home take me boots off and me toe is black ouch
Perfect time of year to do this, its going to be fun next week in the heat trying to get em done
Sheet, what a crap time for that to happen Mark.
The heat is coming on, 37 for where I live later in the week. Your got time off for the doctor visit, shear pain as no medical certificate is requested due to self employed and jobs need to be done.
Ok will stop my grumbles I had today now. I've just got home at 5.30pm, one Crownie ago.
At an immaculate 1400sq home with perfect gardens and my Hru 216 drops the front axle at the left hand wheel weld. Can't '(won't) use me push 18inch Honda/masport due to size of block and slopes involved, can't use me 560 Mulchy as won't allow and I had these mowers on board plus it's the furtherest job from home and its 1.00pm
So home I go to get a newish HRU 216 I have as a spare, kinda like gas bottle change over theory I have with equipment. Back to job finish it, then head off for the last job being Gym building. HOME AT 5.30pm (Sat)- bugger.
But after reading your post re toe episode, I've nothing to complain out.
Hope the color returns and somehow with the hip and stuffed toe you can get the work done, but sounds the working days maybe longer with the pain. Plus a longer day wont help the injury.
Cheers Garry
worst possible pain mate..i did the big toe years ago at this busy time and wasn't nice so i feel ya pain...in 30 years i have never been so busy and to cap it off me mrs had an operation on her wrist so in plaster ...so after a hard day go home to do washing and all of those jobs the good wife does...anyway better than a sore toe lol ...
Edit; Geoff, Deleted my post as it was personal stuff after re reading it. Better in Private section of forum.
Cheers Garry
yep but mate from our vintage we are made of tough stuff lol well i like to think we can match it with the younger ones hahahah..one thing I've learnt from the tech kids ( grandkids lol ) is to put your iPhone on sleep mode so only your address book ( your loyal customers ) get through on the ring the others go straight to message bank so its up to you if you reply..me i normally send txt to say booked out at the days end...if they look like a goody arrange something for the new year ( the good ones will wait for you )
Agree, but all the message bank daily recalls is so time wasting. First world problem I guess.
Edit, that Black toe, is going any shade of pink again Mr Newcastle.
Cheers Garry
Did one of my regulars today, a nice hotel/motel, that I've been doing for about 2.5 years. I do the lawns fortnightly during the busy season and maintain the garden once a month, standard stuff. When I quoted it I wasn't too concerned about whether or not I got it so quoted high. Part way through the job another crew turns up and starts ripping out old plants from some of the garden beds. The owners have a few facilities so wasn't too concerned about another operator doing stuff that I really don't have time for at this time of year. The owner of the other crew approached me for a chat and told me he does their other place and he was asked to quote this one but didn't really want it because it's out of his normal area, he also told me he didn't want to take work from someone who was doing a good job. He then told me what he quoted. Less than half my price for the lawn and nearly 1/3 of what I charge for the garden maintenance. Nearly floored me. I don't know how he makes money and pays his guys. His hourly rate he charges for his guys was what I was charging nearly 14 years ago.
cowboys everywhere Matt, dunno how they survive

Your not wrong redeye. Nice bunch of blokes but ragged looking. 3 of them had their shirts off and had skin that looked like old boot leather. No hats. Not a good look on a high visibility location. Played on my mind the rest of the day. Not really worried if I lose the job now, clearly my work isn't valued.
Looks like the owners are looking for a cheaper quote. I doubt I could lift the price anymore than it is, which is fine as it's on the higher end of my pricing. The disappointing thing is they asked me about looking after their other pub, which the cheap crew is doing, but nothing came of it. They also asked about doing one of their places in Liverpool (I'm south of Wollongong) so it's too far away. Now they seem to be looking to cut costs. We'll see what happens.
Got a customer who has 30mins work mowing front and back and i charge $30 every fortnight(easy job). The neighbour who is a landscaper who did it before when it got knee high at one time during renovations and no excess charged her $900 for an area 100sm.Her regular cut from him was $120 without edging. She said for the $900 she never asked for a quote first. After i took over the job he wouldn't speak to her anymore.
