Happens every year, the phone goes red hot the Monday leading into Easter with requests from very infrequent customers and new contacts to mow my lawn or gardening work before Easter. Even new commercial contacts ringing, but one has to look after their regular customer base first leading into Easter.
Great to get calls all the same but at 6.52pm and 10.55pm on Sunday evening yesterday is pushing it. Will never forget the 6.30am Good Friday call I got a few years ago to mow their lawn before Lunch from a new contact, yes it did go to message bank.

Have noticed one thing, in my locality I dropped off Google search's top 3 search listing during March and one would have to click "more "places" to see my listing. I worked on that to get me back in the top 3 and it re kicked in midway through last week. Then the phone starts rings again as it had stopped due to it and zero rains.
    Cheers Garry

I just read an article about it, 20% for the job to the Guy Ahmed Ismail who runs the show, works of satellite imagery, much like 'Find lot size' which only shows the property not the junk and long grass crap that you find on inspection. More of a paid newsfeed thing. Meh!!

Just got an email today about it. 20% seems a bit much and not sure how accurate their pricing would be from satellite images. Personally I think you have to walk the property to get a better idea of what's involved.

Another "middleman" / "integrator" / "business disrupter" who creams off a very nice fat commission and effectively turns the actual do-ers of the work into sweat labourers.

    Easter Sunday Request:
LARGE garden in Donvale needs a clean up. Some pruning, whipper snipping, weeding, rubbish removal. Think probably 1-2 people 2 days, budget $400. The response: if you require 2 people for 2 days you are looking at $1600-$2000 plus tipping fees. Green waste will cost you $46 per cubic metre and general rubbish will cost you $100 per cubic metre. In addition there will be a labour charge of $70 to take it to the tip for you! Can you let me know if you meant to write budget is $4000?
Out there giving it my best shot

What a crap day Easter Monday become.

Worked the Monday morning at our busy Regional Airport today, that was the good part of the day as I used my rather silent battery extended/hand held hedge trimmers/blower while jets/prop planes and one helicopter where taking off and landing with their roar.

But been having 4 wheel electric trailer brakes syncro issues and have spent time under adjusting a couple of times this week already. The 4 braked complete units were all fitted new last winter.
But one wheel was locking no matter the adjustment made another wheel was grossly getting too hot. Back off adjuster one turn up and its cold, go one turn down and it real hot???
One wheel locked up permanently upon braking and wouldn't release during one test run of many around my local streets this arvo.

So Bugger IT!!!. off come the hubs/bearings on two wheels and dismantle brake shoes etc, re install and grease pivots etc. Me hands looks like there've been dipped in black paint even after using Sards soap.
Crap way to spend a day me thinks and also found one shoe had taken a beating, so gona have to repeat process on the wheel before winter.
Why can't the tandem trailer wheels have smooth running disc brakes.
Had a brief nap after the trailer job and just now 8.15pm returned from the shed after giving the 560 mulchmaster a complete service to oil/filter, gear belt pulleys and drive clutch release cam/cables.

Every day off or half day off there always soooo much maintenance particularly after a dusty summer to keep gear operating. I carry lots of mower common parts in the shed too which helps.
    Cheers Garry

On the Q&A page! How much does lawn mowing cost?
Great question. Let me just explain the pricing structure.

You only pay for the time that the job takes to complete. If you have long grass, lots of edges to maintain and frequent stopping to empty the catcher then the cost will be higher because the job will take longer.

On the other hand, if your garden is reasonably maintained to begin with, then you may only need to pay the minimum (if the job takes less than one hour).

    Pricing:

    Minimum charge of $66
This includes the first hour of work.
    $1.10 per minute thereafter
After the initial hour. So you’ll only pay for the time actually taken to complete the job.

After a lot of research, we’ve established this pricing method based on the frustrations that we encountered from customers with their previous gardeners.

If your mower has to come to your house to provide you with a quote, then they’ll be putting extra cost onto the quote to allow for the “free visit” initially. You may think that getting three quotes would alleviate this problem but unfortunately all three contractors would need to do the same so you’ll end up paying more than you need.
The scheduled mowing scam. If you fall into an arrangement whereby a mower comes to your house on a regular schedule to mow your lawns, then over the course of the year you’ll be paying too much. Here’s why: At certain times throughout the year the lawns grow much slower. During this time, you’ll effectively be paying the same price for a mower to take a few mm off the top of your lawn. With the Joe Mow App you only request a mower when you need one. If you can extend the period of time between mows, then you’ll potentially be saving hundreds of dollars per year!
Check out http://www.joemow.com.au/savings-calculator/ to see how it’s possible to save $572 per year on your mowing by waiting an average of 7 days extra between mows.
