I know a VIP guy who has a diesel Rodeo and the box went in that too. Our family car is an Au Ford and we had it go into limp mode on us. The transmission guy said it is on it's way out and it has never towed anything. It has just ticked over 220k. It has been ok in the 3 months since then after having an oil change, but reverse takes about 3 seconds to engage every time. Hopefully it lasts until my new truck comes in a few months.

Turns out it was a alternator issue, The alternator was surging up and down triggering the check trans light and putting it into limp home mode. Will be back on the road this afternoon.

The Tax office makes me grumpy!
I got a call from Baycorp saying I have a debt to pay (first I've heard of it), but first they ask me my tfn. I don't know it off the top of my head and they have my old address (from 5 years ago) so won't give me any more details until I provide my tfn (starting to get suspicious that it's a scam) so when I get home I call them back and after going through all the rubbish speaking to someone I can barely understand, they say I have to call the ATO and make a payment plan. So I call the ATO and after being on hold for 28 minutes, I finally get through to someone else I can barely understand who says I have to call Baycorp to arrange a payment plan. I told them they said to call the ATO to arrange a payment plan, No I have to call Baycorp again. Round in circles I go.

That's good to hear. It's really important not to jump to the most expensive conclusion straight away with mechanical things. That's what my dad always says and he's been a mechanic for over 50 years. I would be checking the auto fluid while the ute is in there.

Got an email from a long term (at least 7yrs) customer today.....

    Dear Mick,

We are wanting to cancel your mowing services at @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@.

We have a family friend who has started a mowing and gardening service on acreage properties, and he is going to continue with the mowing.

Thank you for the great job you have done for us over the years, it has truly been appreciated.

I will transferred the balance of your two invoices into your account today.

    Kind regards,

What Im grumpy about is that after all this time, why not a call instead of email? Just last week I trimmed a few trees to make it easier for me. I REALLY wish I hadnt now as its only made it easier for the new guy!
Might go put some of those bricks, golf clubs, shoes, palm fronds, trampoline springs etc etc etc back on the lawn!

Im yet to reply to the email. I might wait till tomorrow before I do!

They're feeling well guilty for shafting you Mick, that's why no phone call I'd say.

Remains to be seen how good a job their 'friend' does. If you get a call back in a month from them put your price up.

Yeah it's a bummer but there's plenty more fish in the sea (especially at this time of year). I lost two but the week after I scored 2 new ones and said no to another urgent, drop everything and do it now, one off job.

my advice is to be the nice guy, when their friend stuffs them round or is a summer wonder, they could come back to YOU

if you make an ass of yourself over it, youre only hurting yourself imo - they will NEVER use you again and tell friends how awful you were when they stopped your service

unless youd NEVER take the job back at any cost etc. - and dont care what they tell others, then vent away lol

but i always say i only "win" when i get the money, i always leave the door open for them to return

youre a business man, be business like

whether they sent an email or a phone call, least they TOLD you so you could plan to not go back and can set up other work

least they plan to pay you.

    making sense bud?

    cheers

Like the others said mate just keep a level head about it. When people tell me there cancelling the service I always reply with no worries well if you ever need us again just give me a call and you know what many times they do. Especially if there going to someone cause there cheaper as you know the cheaper ones arnt going to be around long.

Its just that after all this time they didnt have the guts to just call. Basically watched the kids grow up!
I understand them helping a friend out no worries.
Unless the new guy has a good mower, its going to be a struggle at times. Cant mow it for weeks after good rain, ground gets soft after little rain and the grass grows fast.

Ahhhhh, its all good! Funk it!

My mum was a long term customer of a local, and when I started up, she informed him with notice to pull the pin, and he was a tool about it. Some guys just don't get it.
I want to die peacefully in my sleep like my Grandfather.....not screaming in terror like the passengers in his car!!!

Yep. Thinking about it and doing it are 2 different things (round up on the lawn for example).

Its cool. I was nice and even asked for his number to maybe pass on some work. Cr#p only of course! If hes cheap enough maybe sub contract???

I'll try and turn a negative into a positive.
