I knew that my ZTR belt was going to break at some point because I noticed that it had splits in it. I had a spare belt with me so I planned on using it until it snapped then change it on site. As it turned out the spare belt I had was for my Toro and not for my New Holland so it was about as useful as tits on a boar pig. Still ...... could be worse at least it happened fairly close to my house and I could get a new belt from the tyre shop, I got 2 so now I have a spare and I put a label on the belt which says which machine it is for. You live and learn I guess.
Everybody is entitled to MY opinion
If I notice any cracks etc in a belt, I change it. Its heaps easier/better to change it out in the shed than in the middle of a paddock.
driving 50k to a mower shop to spend lots of money and getting crap service. the guy was more than happy to interupt serving me to help others but wasnt at all interested in answering my questions. i felt like telling him him he was as useful as tits on a bull. came home cranky and not broke.

the closest shop that offers service is 2hrs away. its a right pain in the whatsit.
If there's any parts you ever need Kathryn let me know and I can get them on freight from here for you or you could always ring and talk to Max at Motor Mecca. I'm sure he'd help where others won't. Kurtz Transport should pass through Chinchilla daily coming back from Charleville too. If you ever need to get anything sent in here I can pick up from their depot and take it where it needs to go. Bummer of a situation though when you need actual work done on something out there and they can't be bothered providing service.
Customer on my new lawn mowing round gets the bill paid for by veteran affairs.....he's a real nice bloke....ex military and a top bloke (shame about the wife). Anyway they get approval for 12 months at a time....it ran out in December and they were away in WA in the Landy and tandem caravan (grey nomads). The previous owner gets month by month approval till they get back. I buy the round and get told these people are off the list....ok, fair enough. A week later I get a phone call from the wife whining away about how they have approval and the lawn was supposed to be done two weeks ago and she wants it done tomorrow. The lawn is 40 km away and I do one day a week out there (have 8 lawns) so I say "nope, I'll be out there on Friday" (this was Tuesday).....and I'd like you to be there so we can discuss exactly what you require". "Ok, we'll be there".
I rock up and there's no-one around and the lawn is about 300mm and quite thick.....the gate to the back is locked and there's two dogs there. So I decide to get the ZTR off the trailer and start high then drop it down.....then if no-one is back I'll come back next week and do the "proper job". I leave and get halfway home and the phone rings. It's her.....whining "we just got home and we're not happy, the lawn is a mess, you missed a couple of bits, you didn't do the back.....blah blah blah". "Well I'm not happy with the lawn either, and not happy with the fact you weren't home and the back gate was locked.....I've booked you in for next week to bring it all up to standard.....be there so we can discuss it".....she hangs up, still whining.
Yesterday I turn up and she's straight outside pointing and whining. I look at her......really close to suggesting she finds someone else to mow. Finally (when I could get a word in) I said "look, I'll mow the lawn so I'm happy with it then you can decide what you want to do". They depart with the dog in tow to the vet. I do the job properly now the lawn is at a manageable length...... I've just finished the final blow down and the car pulls into the drive.....she leaps out, comes steaming around the corner gushing "Oh that looks so wonderful, it just looked beautiful as we drove up the road". "Ok, that's what I call a finished job.....you really need to wait until a job is finished before you start criticising.......can I assume you're happy for me to continue to do your lawn?"
Can't complain though.....of the 40 clients I bought she's the only.....well you know what I mean. The rest are great.
1 offs calling at 5pm saying i need my lawn done now
i just laugh and dont even entertain them, and say call someone else! what do these ppl think we are.?
I had one of these earlier on this arvo. Rang and wanted a quote and then changed his tune and wanted it done today or tomorrow. Told him I dont work weekends but dpending on how bad it was I might be able to pick it up after my last customer. Told him I could be there in about 90 mins. He says I need it done now as my landlord is coming in an hour.......I told him no way as i had my regs first then I could look at it. He was spewing because he had rang heap of lawnies and no one could helpt. I wonder why. Ringing at 3 oclock on a Friday arvo with an inspection at 4.
