Found a couple of lumpy bearings in the front end of the Gravely. Had no jobs for it this week so pulled it apart on the weekend and tried to buy new bearings yesterday.
Have to wait till Thursday to get the full set and now a couple of jobs have come in for tomorrow. Had to put it back together last night with the couple new bearings I could get, and will have to pull it all apart again on the weekend to fit the rest. Not a biggie, but I'd rather just do it once.
Strange that on a USA machine that is otherwise pretty well made and has good quality components, they put chinese bearings in the front end.

Anything Ian says may or may not be garbage, it may also be his own opinion or it may not be his opinion at all, it may just be something he felt like stating anyone following his advice does so at their own risk and may be doing something Ian would actually advise against.
And if you don't like what Ian has to say use the ignore function if you don't know how ask i will gladly tell you

I think you''ll find that most bearings are made in China these days, skf, timken etc. There's nothing wrong with them as long as they are built to a standard and not a price.
Everybody is entitled to MY opinion

I'm pretty sure the new Timkens had USA stamped on them, but I suppose that doesn't necessarily mean 'made in USA'.
The chinese ones had done 700hrs and it was probably more the seals letting in dust to blame than the bearings themselves.
I only repacked the king pin bearings once @ 400 hrs. Suppose I should have replaced the seals then.
The wheel bearings are non-greasable sealed rollers, so the seals on them can get damaged pretty easily.

I'm fuming right now. Huge day today, huge week actually.

My mobile-phone has stopped working. Won't turn on and won't charge. Ring Crazy Johns - they tell me to ring Vodafone. Ring Vodafone - all I get is menu options. Choose #5 and get connected directly to Samsung Australia who say I can send my phone to them for inspection but I need all original paperwork etc. What do I do about a phone in the meantime. Ring Vodafone they say. Ring Vodafone back and get told they can't help me and to ring Crazy Johns back. Ring Crazy Johns and get their usual dribble again. Their answer - go and buy an unlocked phone to use then send my phone to Samsung Australia.

Meanwhile I've got 6 big jobs on today which I now have to ring every one of to tell them I'll be half a day late and will have to put some of you back to Wednesday or Thursday. And I have to waste my time to go and shop for an unlocked phone.

Lesson for newcomers to the forum - DO NOT USE CRAZY JOHNS OR VODAFONE. They are the most pathetic businesses I have ever had to deal with when it comes to customer service and helpfulness.

Tuesday last week my Stihl KM90R multitool just stopped. An hour later it started fine, ran for 5 minutes, stopped......ad infinitum all day. I took it to th Stihl dealer. Yesterday I get a phone call, they've finally got to look at it, stuffed coil....new coil plus a carbie kit and a service....$250 (half the cost of a new one) and they'll have it ready as soon as they get a coil in.....probably Thursday. A week and a half to fit a carby kit and a new coil.......not particularly impressed with the turnaround time. The other mower place I use goes out of their way to minimise downtime for contractors. These guys seem to put you on the end of the list. It would have taken them half an hour to check it out when it came in and at least make sure they had the parts in stock.

Main mower went off to get repaired last week, so swapped to backup mower, so today it also has issues. Have my biggest client scheduled for tomorrow, so quickly throw together bits and pieces to get the next mower up and running, just hope it holds together, otherwise I will be calling the gf to drop off her domestic Victa which has seen better years.

VODAFONE.......I paid my bill last two months and now they say I still owe the money even though it came out my account 200 worth. I am fed up with them, how is it in this day and age service is getting worse each day and technology that is supposed the be getting better is in reality getting worse.

Solar panels.......the only people that can afford them reap any benefit and make the rest of us who cant afford them pay more for our electricity because the people who have solar panels no longer buy power instead feed it into the grid, and power companies need to make up the difference and charge those who don't have panels more.

MEDIA.....If the media was regulated like every other industry in this world, an innocent woman might be alive and two people spared of the crap they are currently getting.

Social media - primary cause of the excessive amounts of bullying and suicide that goes on these days. Before social media...fa@e book etc bullying could only take place mostly during school hours or office hours and between the people involved. Now with social media that is unregulated, its 24/7 and available for practically everyone to see.

Doesn't make me grumpy but really makes me sad what has just happened in America. So many innocent kids gone. When will the Government in that country grow some balls and tighten there gun controls.

Why does a civilian need access to hand guns and military hardware.

Social media bullying is a load of crap. The kids are just bloody soft. Growing up being a short kid with red hair and freckles I know what bullying is all about. In my day I was taught to either ignore it, laugh along with it, fight back or run like the clappers. The same principles can be applied to "cyber bullying". Though I think it's even easier to deal with. Simply don't use fakebook!!! Parents take all internet devices away from kids bedrooms. Block access to social media sites on all computers in the house. Send your kids out to play footy or cricket or just run around in the back yard. If they're not exposed to it they can't be effected by it.

If only it was that simple Jason, unfortunately the numbers of youth suicides is shocking, due in a lot of cases to cyber bullying. When we were kids, it was one on one mostly, these days its hundreds on one
Glad I,m not growing up these days:-)
