    Plus one!

The cheapie guys who pop up at summer are really repugnant. As soon as the season changes, they're gone. There are some sometimes some job cost management issues which arise.

And, of course, there are enormous job quality issues. Fixing what a 'cheap' lawnie does is more costly than choosing someone who does the work correctly in the first place.

Customers who want 'cheap-cheap' end up cheating only themselves, even year to year, and probably month to month.

    Cheers - GardenGuy.

What sort of person has the gall to do this ? and imagine the type of crap customers you would get from this type of tactic, willing to drop their current contractor because some knob head knocked on their door saying they would do it $5 cheaper.

    Blaktop,

I just ordered 2 Klevar deck transmission belts tonight that will be delivered in 3 days for $58, postage in that price too.
I know my drive belt is in poor condition after having it for 2 & 3/4yrs and reading your post got me to order two.

What type of rideon have you got? If you know the part number even better as I'll check the price for future reference if you like.

I do some work for a developer ie a vacant block and a new development nature strips etc. I took it over from there last guy who'd had a falling out with someone in the office.
Anyway, all was good until he went in, said sorry and that he wanted it back and that he'd match my price.
I had to requote the jobs. I basically just told them that I wont put the price up but I wont be lowering it either.
They were happy with what and how I did things so fortunately kept the job. I was pretty pizzed off about it all actually and especially with the other contractor.
The old guy was a diabetic and alcoholic and had lost his licence so had to hire a young guy to drive him around etc.
Fast forward 6mths, the old guy died!

    This made me grumpy yesterday...
Have a customer whos been on weekly mowing. He'd missed payment on decembers invoice so sent a reminder along with Jan invoice. Was a pretty big total.
I get an email from him...
Him "First time Ive seen that invoice. Will make payment on both...." (I know it was sent)
    Me, No problem mate. Thanks
Him "Could you please start doing my in laws every 2 weeks, thanks"
Me... Sure, but it will get very long in 2 weeks now that weve had some good rain. I'll put you down for 2 but if you change your mind, let me know before next Thursday.
Him "Will you mow next Thursday?"
Me.. No, not unless you request it. If I dont hear from you, I'll do it in 2 weeks. If it gets to long for you, just let me know before next Thursday morning.
Him "You can do it this week, then 2 weeks from there"
Me...I did it this morning. I actually thought I was doing a good thing for you, knowing how long it would be if I missed this cut.

You had one of those months where there are 5 Thursdays so is why the extra cost. I guess thats why you want to go fortnightly?
The grass will go nuts once the sun comes out so Im a little surprised your changing it now. I really cant recommend it if you want a nice lawn, but its yours and I'll do it however you want.

    Anyway, fortnightly from today.
    Cheers

Thing is, its been weekly through the drought. Ive spoken to him and there wasnt a problem. Of all times to change, why the hell would he after 400mm of rain?

Spitting chips again here today. We had to get a roofer out to look at the er, um, roof at the request of the insurance company.

He was here all of about 45 minutes just looking and chatting; no actual work done. Today we get an email from him with invoice for $250.

Nope - he didn't touch a thing. Got that short storm that you are getting now but didn't last for long. A little bit of follow up lighter rain in teh last half hour but it seems to be finished now.

Send the invoice to the insurance company Paul. It should form part of the claim. They should have sent their own assessor out to look at it anyway.

Not sure of the finer details yet Jo as Amanda has taken a week of school (hasn't started back yet more to the point) to handle all the insurance stuff while I work. I guess if he was sent by insurance he wouldn't have billed us directly though. We can't even secure the house yet as Insurance won't even help at this stage to get us a new front door.
