True. I've lost count of the number of times I've chatted to people and given advice and haven't charged a cent. Maybe I need to start "consulting" at $300p/h.

The client told me this guys business name so if I see him I will front him, I didn't think this sort of thing happened around here .
I just had a customer tell me yesterday that no sooner had I left his place they had a jimmy knock on their door and say I noticed you have someone doing your lawns. Here's my card, would you like a quote?

He was told no but started on about it so they shut the door in his face.

Customer told me its not the first time this has happened after I've left. Next time I see a contractor hanging around there I might have to give him some unfriendly advice!

Tell Amanda to advise the insurance company that 1) She is aware that ALL calls are recorded and 2) You will not be held responsible if the lack of front door means you cannot secure the property and looters come in and steal things for which you will then lodge an additional claim. (Do NOT believe them when they try and tell you forced entry is needed....this is NOT correct)

No problem. It is a common misconception with insurance that there must be forced entry or there is no cover for theft. The only thing that may void the cover (depending on the insurer) is if the thief had permission to be in your home such as was invited to a party and while there rifled through your jewellery and coin collection

Got a phone call after I'd finished a rental today from the tenant claiming a stone from my whippersnipper had flown through the window of her car and broke the screen of her iPhone which was sitting on the front seat. I'm pretty sure it didn't but it is possible, she wanted me to pay for it......reluctantly I agreed to pay half. I also told her from now on I would not be responsible for any similar damage. If she chooses to park her car right next to where I am working it's all on her.....and while she's at it, she can pick up all her kid's toys before I get there. What I didn't tell her is her partner/husband just lost a trenching job worth 10 times what the iPhone screen is worth. I was lining it up with another of my clients who needs a creek dug out.....the partner has the perfect machine, but I'm now going to advise my client to look elsewhere.

You're not serious about paying half for the iphone screen are you ?
I'd be looking for a second snipper working on a grassy knoll

I've heard it all now... so she has left her iphone unattended in her car with the window down and claims that you broke her phone. She is lucky it wasn't stolen!

Personally, I wouldn't pay. I hope you haven't paid more than $35 (half the cost) as it costs $70 to replace a front aftermarket screen for an iphone 4 or $29 for a back cover aftermarket glass screen from here http://iexperts.com.au/iexperts-pricing#iphone4 even cheaper if it is a iphone 3G

and for what it's worth... i would have told her that her husband is now missing out on that job! You don't deserve clients like that.

    Simmo.

Yes it's a stretch.....but it's a pretty good job, tenants notwithstanding....it's worth $2000+ a year and it's all rideon with a bit of whippersnipper. The owners and real estate are excellent to deal with. I have my ways of getting even.....one of them is cancelling the digging job. He knows it's in the offing, and I asked for a card to hand on to my other client.....when he asks what's happening, I'll tell him.....can't expect me to hand work his way if he's (it was apparently his suggestion to ring me about the iPhone) if he's going to screw me like that.

Reminds me of the old Mouse Trap game as the object has to go many places to get to the destination.
What next, a stone enters an open doors bounces of the wall oven which is now cracked, proceeds to zig zag into the lounge room and crack a treasured vase. Then richotte into the bedroom and dent the omega watch sitting on the bedside table. not to mention poor old Ginger the cat eats it and gets stomach pains.

Blaktop, not taking the piss out you, just wondering what I would calmly say or would I be more colorful like a Ken Done Painting if a donky call came my way.
Good luck with it all, as crap like that can cause uneeded worry.
    Cheers Garry
