hitting a fresh dog sh!t on the first job and wearing it all over - had to go home for a shower & change of clothes, wash the first clothes.....I HATE dog sh!t
gonna spend the day changing blades oil etc, pretty hot already 30 deg & 85% humidity
A client calls me today and says her irrigation system isn't working at all. Seeing it's on a pump/tank I thought the pump might have run dry/not working so i told her I would look at it this afternoon. She says no one will be home until 5.30, so I agreed to go at 5.30 and thought I would go straight from another job nearby where I would be in the afternoon (Dural, she was as Glenhaven). At 3.45 a storm came through and it started pouring, so I went home. Got home just after 4 and then just after 5 I thought I would go to the job at Glenhaven which is about 10-15 minutes from my place.
Get there about 5.20 and thought I wold just see if anyone is there. Press the doorbell- nothing. Back to the ute to wait. Gave it about 15 minutes and thought maybe the doorbell doesn't work so I knocked- nothing. Gave it another 15 and knocked harder- nothing. Back to the ute and look through last years diary to find her number (she called earlier on an office number). Called her and she says her husband is home but she is only around the corner anyway. She gets home, opens the garage where the controller is and her husband comes out saying he didnt hear me knock (it is a fair size house and the doorbell does have a flat battery). I hit the manual button on the controller and on they come. Next station- tick, next station- tick. I looked up on their gutter and spotted the rain sensor that had stopped it coming on the previous day as we had had a few showery days. That's why it didn't come on. The storm didn't get to their place this afternoon and because it was hot today it had dried out. "Thanks for coming anyway. Oh, do we owe you anything?"
I am doing a retrofit of one station in a few weeks so I let it slide, but I wasted two hours and missed seeing my kids before they went to bed for the 2nd day in a row. Not happy!
FLEAS
Fleas made me very grumpy today.
Got to my first job which was lopping a large Celtis tree from a small side yard that normally houses a rather large dog (and yep I have whipper-snipped through dog-sh!t in this one too!
Anyway I start by picking up some piles of rubbish, wisteria vines, kikuyu runners etc and dump them in the trailer. Now that I have my working space clear I commence lopping some of the lower branches. Drag them out to the trailer but when I'm about to start the chainsaw again I notice these brown specs all down the front of my shirt and pants.
Well stuff me if I wasn't covered in about 65,000 fleas .
I notified the owner and said I wouldn't be back until the yard had been sprayed by pest-control.
It seriously took me about half an hour to get 95% of them off me before I could get into the car but still the car got infested too. So off I go to Coles to buy some flea bombs, itching all the time from the bites of the ones that got inside my clothes.
Go home, undress in the driveway, throw my clothes in the vehicle, throw in a flea-bomb canister and go inside for a shower.
Talk about a sh!t day. It made me grumpy and itchy for the rest of the day.
it really pisses me off, when people ask me to give a quote over the phone, such as " hey mate, how much do you mow an average lawn?" - what is average?how overgrown is your bl....dy grass? and of course, ho slpoy or difficult is your yard?......hehe..
I am a spray painter by trade and we would get people ring up and want a quote over the phone for a fender bender or
"How much for a good-cheap respray" A good respray is not cheap and a cheap respray is not good, was the answer. There is no way you can quote a vehicle smash repair over the phone, or a yard mow and tidy.
I under quoted a bit today and that makes me grumpy, should be a regular job but, and it's just down the road from my house so hopefully I can recoup my loss.
Got zapped right on the nose by a dirty big hornet yesterday on the forst job of the day. F...k me it hurt! All down my cheek and across my jaw went all tingly and from my nose across my eyes was all numb and tight for a while. Went and got some antihistamines into me and I was ok after half an hour but had a headache and was a bit light headed for the rest of the day. BUGGER! . . . But lucky it was only 1.
