Been there . ..... Done that .... And what a feeling!! (& not Toyota one) as the b.....ds chase you!

What do you do .... The old tv ad comes to mind to quote .. 'hit em with the old pea beau'
Actually one feels more like taking revenge like those mad Yankee rednecks who are 'exterminating' swamp rats in Louisiana in the tv prog Rat B......s (blow em up or shoot the living daylights out of em).

Why is it that so many people don't seem to give a toss about keeping their lawns looking nice and well kept. ten years ago when we moved to this area the majority of people had there lawns looking immaculate. now there are overgrown lawns in nearly every street. Now I don't want to sound racist but nine times out of ten the unkept gardens seem to belong to people from a certain sector of immigrants who cut the grass but don't do the edges and if they do get someone to cut it wait till it gets over a foot high and then expect to pay next to nothing to get it cut. Sorry about the rant but I needed to get this one off my chest.

Damn junk mail walkers that shove a roll of advert material the size of fort knox that wont fit into a slot or hole more than an inch. Wind blows and next thing there is rubbish all over the place. Really makes me grumpy when I'm doing a lawn and come from the backyard to the front to find the lawn and garden beds look like a bloody rubbish tip. You drop the equipment go pick all the crap up and by the time you get going another load of the stuff blows down the street and all over the place. Getting so sick of it I'm thinking I should ring and complain about it. Not only to the local delivery supervisors but the council aswell. Not sure if there is a better avenue to call.

One thing I've learnt re junk mail walkers.

My father lives near me in the same estate but on a fairly flat ground. He receives so much junk mail that it threatens to knock Earth's orbit out of whack with the weight of it.
I live on the hillside with a higher elevated position, you guessed it almost zero junk mail.
Junk Mail walkers who walk or push/trolleys won't walk up the hills, just walk around any connecting flatter roads or pahways.

    Glenn, just ring Neil Mitchell

Brainwave.. install a 'no junk Mail' sign on all the letterboxes near your jobs. they are cheap from the PO. Probably most of the owners would just leave them on!

+1 money hungry clowns and slack @ass council workers with their arms painted on.

my gripe: ive got plenty of work but my regulars are pensioners and all best friends through word of mouth. one of them has been making me feel so guilty about the amount i charge for the last three weeks, that i now charge bare minimum for the tip, nothing for my time at the tip, nothing for my time buying plants for her bloody garden, the plants i charged at cost. i charged her $30 for 3 bags of compost for planting into water-repellant, poor soil. plus i charge a stuff all hourly rate cos im a newbie.
today i call to say i have 2m of mulch coming tomoz at her request. i say thats $35 p/m and $35 deliv. she says "but ive already paid for it." she says "i paid $30 last week for compost". i told her twice the day i planted that that i had used 3 bags of compost because the soil was so poor.
surely an 80 year old who has gardened most of her life knows that $30 doesnt buy you 2m mulch and delivery. and wouldnt she know the difference between mulch and compost. feel like im being had.
anyway she wanted irrigation too. so i buy (on my own time) 19mm poly and shrubblers and parts. because its cheap for her. and on the phone after the mulch saga, i tell her ive bought the irrigation. she says" oh, how much is that going to cost, ive paid out so much, i cant afford, blah,blah....,can you just do something with whats already there?" AAAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGG
    gonna have words tomoz.

    great nature
time to let a pita go
don't let the little old ladies push you around, give them good honest service but don't let them take advantage of you
remember she is living in a house probably worth $500k and getting you to do work for her on the cheap
now i believe long term property increase is about 7% so she is making about $35k per year tax free or $700 per/week
Anything Ian says may or may not be garbage, it may also be his own opinion or it may not be his opinion at all, it may just be something he felt like stating anyone following his advice does so at their own risk and may be doing something Ian would actually advise against.
And if you don't like what Ian has to say use the ignore function if you don't know how ask i will gladly tell you

    Yeah im a sh!t tradie.
My tale of shame:The pensioner and i butted heads in the morning and then i totally frikkin caved. Gave her irrigation at cost(she even asked to see the reciept), worked my ass off gardening, placing irrigation and mulching, then out of nowhere i give her half an hour free labour. Who does that? What a loser i hear you say. I agree. Gotta get rid of this woman. Shes worked me out.
Yeah, ian, shes got money, the big liar. Was thinking about your clients the other day. The lovely ladies that gave you $120 and $105 an hour. What a contrast.

Beware of little old ladies. They have the advantage of great experience and the freedom of time with which to exploit it - both of which are tools with which to reap the inexperienced. Some are more cunning than... well... you know. Heads up.

However, there are some living in 'elegant' poverty. Those who are introduced to you via Charities, for which you might do some pro-bono or caring work, for are a different case.

Watch out for the more senior lady whose words are filled with her displeasure about someone else: perhaps a former contractor and more usually a neighbour. Sooner or later, that person who is the subject of displeasure will be you. Positive verbal recommendations don't travel far. Horror stories and negative recommendations gain much more traction. Choose your battles wisely, and with a written specification that they have signed, and of which you have the original.

Caveat emptor? Let's badly paraphrase that: Caveat vendor.
