Got a txt at 6am thursday comfirming mowing on sat, get a txt 6am friday canceling mowing sat even though 3 weeks overdue. Second customer turn up this morning after comfirming time to find cars everywhere and everyone asleep. Said customer is 2 weeks overdue after having the law laid down to them a month ago after taking them on again after pissing them off a year ago. Knew i was wasting my time! Might have to phuch off sat customers, majority of them do nothing but cost me time and money.
Not that I mind workig sat, but Its normally very organized. Today meant that I got in a one off job but didnt get home til 4.30pm an should have earn't a lot more money considering when I left home.
Paul I read about that. Mate no way would I touch that stuff.
I agree with you 100%... the fact that it is one of the most widely used herbicides in the world is shocking!
If you are crazy enough to handle it you would have full PPE including a mouthful of dirt in your mouth.
What shocked me the most reading up about it was how widely spread it is used for suicide and murder (majority of deaths of Paraquat poisioning)... So readily available and cheap to purchase...
It's scary stuff!

I find working Saturdays is always more time consuming and usually less profitable.... In my area there is less available parking, more residents home (who don't understand the concept of moving vehicles, toys, opening locked gates prior to your arrival etc) they then try and have a long chat as there not working and also the neighbours stopping you for quotes etc
I've been lucky and not attracted many "saturday only" clients for a while... so i almost have it downpat of where i go and what time exactly... it can still be a bit of a juggling act from time to time as the clients sometimes "try" to let me know what time i should be there.

Anything Ian says may or may not be garbage, it may also be his own opinion or it may not be his opinion at all, it may just be something he felt like stating anyone following his advice does so at their own risk and may be doing something Ian would actually advise against.
And if you don't like what Ian has to say use the ignore function if you don't know how ask i will gladly tell you
I've been booked out on Saturdays for 7 years, i actually have a customer who's asked me to put her on the waiting list for Saturday appointments

I would gladly work W/ends in exchange for 2 week days as I prefer to get away without the crowds.
Really dont think it would be fair though, as the extended noise factor where we work (medium/high density resi) ,well it just would'nt be right.
Even given that it would be legal between the corrrect hours.
We make alot of noise
Cheers Fred.
I'm stretching myself too thin at the moment. Still trying to fit in Hort. study at TAFE, working at the nursery one (sometimes two) day per week on Saturday, and a number of new clients recently including a major commercial client, has got me chasing my tail, not seeing much of my family and sleeping just about every spare second. I'm heading out again shortly to keep working on the big job for the new commercial client. At least after this big initial tidy up it will revert to one morning a week for that one.
Trying to make the most of it while I can though as things are bound to slow down soon with the cooler weather approaching. Then I will have a rest.
I always work Saturday mornings or even Sunday morning.. Especialy in Winter!!! Why winter? gives the impression your busy. If your a wanted man people want you because if your wanted you must be good!!
I have no regular Saturday clients, and if someone new rings and says Saturday for regular work, I give a big NO.
Do work Saturdays, ie great for Spring overflow work or catchups.
Or like at the moment am having to take a few midweek days off, so happy to work on Saturdays, but would rather work till 7 at night to avoid it if possible
i dont have any clients that ask fort saturday only
i they did, id ask for time and a half, lol
i DO work saturdays and some public holidays, but its so i can catch up on stuff so i dont let regulars down the next week - and sometimes to fit in a feral or a big job without disturbing my normal workflow.
like sometimes if it rains monday and tuesday, i just stay home, and then work wed - sat to catch up.
