Greek bloke bargained me down aggtessivly on his ABBA ( all Bricks, Balustrades and Arches) home.. struggling to make the rate on it.. steep slope, dicky little terraced lawns, heaps of edges.

turns up and tells me he just spent 270K on his new car. Went home and sent him a 'your lawn has gone up' letter. Won't mind losing him.

Should reconsider using my phone as an alarm,,This morning, Sunday, had a client text at 6 AM. Then had to gear up to mow a $40 lawn or lose the regular client. Groan!

Missus dragging me off to the coast tomorrow missing the busiest week of the year. Or maybe thats something to be happy about!

Can you turn your phone off and still have the alarm work? Mine does. So it's only the kids, the neighbour in his shed, and the Currawongs that wake me up at 6am here now...

It's the week prior to Christmas so all jobs that fall on Christmas I do the week before. This idiot customer goes your early, your not due till next week!
I'm thinking, Doh.... that would be boxing day. There's no bloody way I'm working that day.
She was more concerned about saving a couple dollars than the inconvenience that she would cause.
I cut the lawn the lawn anyway. Told her I'm having time off and it'd be 6wks growth before I'd be back.

Yesterday, one of my customers wanted me todo her lawn for 2 properties every 6 week instead of 3 weeks even in summer. She asked me to cut as low as possible and catch the grass and only pay same as 3 weeks pay. Cover area around 350sqm and 120sqm.. I told her this is the last time I mow your gardens

Would be the last time I used you too if you mowed my gardens

I hate when customers try to do that though. I've had a few do similar, going from fortnightly or every three weeks to whenever they think it should be done. I stopped charging these clients a set price and started charging for actual time taken at a higher rate plus charging per bag for greenwaste.

Had a customer looking for a New Lawnie yesterday, shes had a look at the directory LMD and asked me if any of them are any good, naturally i said yes cause they are .

kate is grumpy she likes it cut long just a third of the leaf every 2 weeks (likes lawns not weeds) He just wont listen she said (not a member)

So if you get a call after xmas northern beaches and a client grills you on the way you listen you know who you may be speaking to .

Spoke to the lady for about 25 mins not just on lawns ,intelligent knows what she wants and has no problem on a fair pricing structure .

I hear this nearly every second day

'Kate' definitely sounds like she knows what the go is with her lawns. Some of mine however are simply trying to stretch it out as long as they can. One I have to mow now before Christmas hasn't been done since 25 October and it's kikuyu to boot!

Depends how the Dept of Fair Trading (or NSW equivalent) controls what can you register as a business name down there?

Very similar for you I agree but up here in Newmanland I was not allowed to register 'Gardenworx' as a stand-alone name (despite the different spelling) as there were already other businesses who had Gardenworks (ks) as part of a longer two-word name already; ie DaDaDa Gardenworks or Gardenworks DaDaDa. So I had to go with Gardenworx Toowoomba.

N.S.W Fair Trading are the same , will not let you register a name close to another.
I decide if my clients are regular, if they start stretching out time between mows, then I start charging more and if they don't like that then I tell them to find someone else. If I stretch out time between mows then that's different. I won't mow a lawn if it does not need mowing, if client insists then I will, whose to knock back easy money.

thought I had disconnected the trailer and drove off at a sharp angle - jackknifed, snapped the weld on the spare wheel post and totalled an undertray toolbox. The trailer is only a few weeks old ffs.......15 days straight, l need a break!!!pretty much exhausted with another fullish one tomorrow

Fair Trading in each state no longer take care of trading name registrations. This is now nationally handled by ASIC.

In the past, the same business name could be registered once in each state and to different people.

While existing registrations will transfer to the national system on renewal - no new registrations will be accepted if the name already exists.

Changes to trading names thru ASIC are now automatically added to ABN registration details and can be checked using the ABN Lookup service at website http://abr.business.gov.au/

I do recommend that whenever you take on a new commercial client, that you check to make sure exactly what entity you expect to pay you.

    - is the trading name different from the business name? eg. is their a trust fund, company, partnership or sole trader behind the trading name?
    - is the trading name registered?
    - is the trading name supplied listed on the ABN when looking it up on the ABN Lookup service? name registered to same entity?
