When I looked at your first photos I thought gee bluey your a fussy bastard, then you put the before ones up. Made me laugh. I had a bloke who owned his own business give me a hand one day, I was out the back doing something and he was blowing down out the front, when I came out he had blown everything onto the road, I nearly had a heart attack. I said do you always do that, and he said yeah, I replied well that's not how I operate so clean it up. There are those who know how to do this job, and there are those that think they know . There should be a short tafe course to teach some of these knuckle heads

It seems a common theme Mark, I see heaps blowing **** onto the road around here. We were house sitting a customers flash water front place for 6 months, a jimbo did the place 2 doors down and I could guarantee the clippings would be on the road every time he finished.

in less than a minute anyway.also depends on customer if they are cheapskates or appreciate tidy job.mostly I will try to clean up gutters but too windy, too much traffic, cars parked in your way interferes..

So maybe when its late and no moon you could sneak out with a sprayer full of super strength roundup, then doing the edges and perhaps a little bit extra here and there. Should take 37 seconds, 2 weeks later......WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best way to fix it is don't do on call mowing. We no longer do, and its one of the most profitable calls I ever made.

I am not always do clean the gutter due to high traffic and alot of cars park.
I almost got hit by cars few times, when blowing from the road or gutter back to lawn.

When safe or not so many cars parked, then I will blow them

Doing some whippering and started on the next doors front - it takes me an extra 2 mins to whip/mow it and is easier for me than stopping on the boundary - when the bl00dy water pipe split. Only a pin hole but was spraying about 15', rang the water mob and all sorted.....what kind of d1ckhead plumber runs the water inlet pipe above ground?

Got a call to do a quote today, I was home with 2 sick kids and it was only a couple of minutes from home. Straight forward front and back yard with an extra strip along a shared driveway about 25-30 M long. He complained that the current guy had damaged a plastic pipe twice and left a mess the previous cut. $55 seemed a reasonable price, at least it did to me. He shook his head saying "no, no, no that's too much" at that price he would do it himself. I asked what he expected to pay and he replied $35, same price he's been paying since 2004 (4 different contractors). $35 is a minimum for me and that's for a small front and back (which this wasn't). Just the front or the back would also be $35. Tried explaining about costs, but he said he an ex contractor and knows about the costs. He then went on to tell me he used to do a job in the 80's that took an hour and he would charge $50. That's the part that gave me the ****s. The job would've taken just under an hour the first cut, the edges needed to be fixed, and about 45 minutes on a regular visit.

Mate I had one yesterday, old woman comes out from next to where I was working, and asked how much to do her front edges which were overgrown thick buffalo. I thought it would take a bit of work, edge with edger then hit it with the whippy clean it up. She said she had a go but it nearly killed her, I could see where she had hacked the crap out of it.So me being very nice said $30 , well she nearly had a hearty on the spot oh no no no that's to dear Ill do it myself. Thank god I thought cause it was more like a $50 dollar job. Why do people think your going to bust your arse for Fark all.

Because they're stuck in the 50's I deal with it every day, as most of my customer base are over 65/70.
You do get good ones though, that make it worth while. Had a job the other day, finished within 1.5hrs, informed them of the price, yet got paid $150

You have got my sympathy mate. What a waste of time especially given you have two sick kids. Looking at it from a different angle though, he has done you a favour by revealing that he would be a customer not worth having. You are lucky you didn't quote him for a regular and be stuck with him.

I think it is more like they have no idea what it takes to run a business like ours and think mowing a lawn is such a lowly job it couldnt be worth very much at all. Yet the very same ppl do not hesitate to spend $30 on a bottle of wine.

The same plumber who would blame it on the gardener.
