Anything Ian says may or may not be garbage, it may also be his own opinion or it may not be his opinion at all, it may just be something he felt like stating anyone following his advice does so at their own risk and may be doing something Ian would actually advise against.
And if you don't like what Ian has to say use the ignore function if you don't know how ask i will gladly tell you

I got an unsolicited phone call from "TechMySupport" claiming to be contracted by Microsoft. They say MS has reports of problems with my system due to my internet useage.
What tipped me off? 1. I had just change my phone number and it was unlisted. 2. How would they know what my useage was?
What they wanted - me to go to a site that would mis-use the valid and useful program - LogMeIn - to give them access to my PC to 'fix' it.
My research found :
1. MS advise - 'we NEVER make unsolicited calls to our users, although we do return contact initiated by users'
2. Their web-site is a dummy - it's got Australian address and phone number - however an Aussie phone number can be obtained using voip from anywhere in the world. The website of these IT professionals isn't even finished - it even has some Latin text (Ipsum Lorem)
3. A search of the phone number from their website reveals a long list of complaints about unsolicited calls - it is also the same number linked to a call center for a host of other stuff
4. A search for MyTechSupport reveals a long list of psuedonyms these creeps use
5. Contact with ASIC's Watchdog confirms they are aware of this type of scam
Beware unsolicited calls purporting to be from Microsoft Tech Support responding to error messages sent by your PC. They want to gain control of your PC then charge you for 'protection' against the nasties.

Yes had the same phone call this afternoon, I let them go on with their spool, until they told me to log on to my computer,I replied i don't think so you just want to hack into my computer and then hung up
We have had three of these. I love to mess with their heads.
Which computer? To which they usually reply...your PC. To which I reply, which one? To which they reply the one you use to access the internet. Yeah but which one? It goes around and around until eventually they just hang up on you which always makes me giggle. (In this house we have two PC's and two laptops and a thin client for remote access to my office).
My other favourite....we don't own a computer......that gets them off the line the quickest.

These guys will also down load trojans to your PC to steal sensitive data. That's why no one gets remote access to my PC.

"Success occurs when no one is looking, failure occurs when everyone is watching."
Picked up a lawn a couple months ago. Very happy with work etc. One day wifey comes out and says,
Her, "I like doing the lawns too, on my ride on. We make a day of it bla bla bla. I will call you when we need it done."
Me "Um, sorry, I dont do "On call!"
Her, "How about we do it one week, you do it the next?"
Me, "Um, that never works but ok."
So, a few weeks ago its "my turn" to mow and its been done! Fark ME! Not even started with this system and its down the crapper!
I dont call, mow or anything then a few weeks later after rain and heavy growth....
Her, "Can you come and mow, its too long for our machine?"
Me, "Well, I have one around the corner so, OK!"
Get text from husband apologising profusely about all of this. (Hes a really good guy and understands exactly my/the situation)
It was there turn to mow last week but with the rain, wasnt done.
I go to do it today and guess what?................. I dont really have to answer this do I?
Im going past this house again of Friday and just going to do it!
wasn't in mudgeeeraba was it mick???
No, Currumbin! You have one to do ya?
I got grumpy today because of Bunnings' policy to not give refunds but only store credit even when a product was clearly faulty and not up to the job it was designed for.
I'll stick to Mitre10 in future. Bent a new Cyclone digging fork recently. They refunded my money no questions asked.
bought a new wheelbarrow from bunnings to move some mulch. Also took my old one as there was 2 of us. The offsider said you can use the new wheelbarrow after his first load in it. SH.t it was hard to push. Checked the tire - no air but when unloaded I didnt notice as it was a wide one. go to put in air - no damn valve sticking out. Only 10more meters to move.
took it back and swapped it for a new one with a valve
