Within 20k's from the city most of the new development is all towering apartment blocks so no gardeners needed. Where you once had 5 normal house blocks with two cars per block you now have 30 apartments with two cars each.........does wonders for traffic flow and parking (( :

Nice place to live though. Good neighbours, nice cafes, good coffee, nice beaches, good fishing, great place to own property as prices skyrocket quickly.

On the work front Commercial is the go, especially mowing. Easy on the body, good rates.

Was enjoying a slow/late start to the day, when I heard a contractor slashing the high grass on the front of the empty rental next door. My wife's car & our caravan in our driveway, right alongside of where he was working To make matters worse, there are stones & gum-nuts under the high grass! Flew outside in my slippers, but it was too late! Grass & crap all over the wife's car. Ripped him a new arsehole, but the damage was done! Sad thing is that he thought what he was doing was OK Washed the car, but the stone chips don't wash off! Doesn't anyone knock on the neighbor's door before they slash high grass next to cars anymore? All he had to do was start out the back & I would have heard him & moved the car. Don't even get me started on technique, once around the outside with the mower, before you whip high grass! Or, doesn't anyone do that anymore either? He even stuck his whip into the weeds growing in the gravel driveway, stones flying everywhere. Really, really peeved!

Just saw a gumtree add , mowing all lawns cut and edged $20.... that's all lawns........next add, mowing will beat any quote,

Now I know we shouldn't worry about these guys, but they do make it harder to make a decent living out of mowing.

I had a guy ring me today wanting a job done , and because I couldn't do it today he said don't worry about it , I will get someone else, and no doubt he did , because it seems like every second ute that goes past these has a mower and whipper snipper on it

I agree its annoying. When you get a job get this guy to beat the quote but bill you instead of the owner. Tell the owner your sending a bloke to do the job and you bill the owner at quoted price. Not a lie

Got my first Google Review 5 weeks ago from a decent new regular customer. The review was 5 Star and worded superb. My business googles in the displayed top 3

Then a heap of garbage calls for quotes started after that review, give quote and get runaround or moving out and e-mail invoice, yer righto sure I'm gona do that.
Only started doing a few quotes over July/August due to being quite.
    A text at 5.15pm 2 weeks back.
Come to my house as I'm home now from work and quote my lawns mate.
Text back, sorry its too late for today, happy to quote first up tomorrow.
He texts back, says google shows you have 15mins till close and I expect you come to my house now.

I wanted another 4-5max good regulars on my books due to customer moving location in their jobs which happens in large regional towns, so have been committing to some calls.
As we all know some people can be poor in their treatment to us.

Think I just go back to being selective to the walk ups and word of mouths as they present.
    Cheers Garry

Welcome to internet advertising Garry, the telemarketers will start next. I've lost count how many call per week. Then other contractors will start price checking you, I've had ten that i know of this year alone. Fun when you get a heads up about what's happening but still annoying, how about a beer and a chat instead fellas.

Been like that in Melbourne for at a guess, 10 years plus, maybe more. Will get worse unfortunately.

Scooby Steve is still Scooby Steve and not Craig yet ??

Reckon I've got 35 blocked numbers on my phone and don't answer unknown calls now, especially if they have 07 or 03 in front. Let mobile numbers go to message bank if they get that far or google the number upon seeing it on my iPhone screen.
Took my call timing back to 15 seconds so gen customer may get to message bank prior to hang up.
I've still got a good client base so I can operate that way seeing I'm up and running after 7 years.

Telemarketers what a job to have.
    Cheers Garry
